An Exceptional Woman of Integrity

Martha Abuh Ndi was born to Late Pa Tita Ndi and Mama Ashie from the Fon’s Palace in Batibo, starting off her life amidst very humble circumstances, in Tiben, Momo Division, in the North West Region of Cameroon.

She attended Primary school at St. Theresa’s Primary School, Fiango-Kumba having moved there to live with relatives, and later, the Girls Secondary School, Soppo-Buea. She went on to graduate from the Catholic Teachers Training College, Shisong- Banso and taught as an elementary school teacher for approximately six months. Because of her keen interest in helping others, she decided to pursue a career in healthcare and worked very hard to sponsor herself through the School of Nursing at Victoria, now Limbe.

She was courted by Henry Namata-Elangwe, a young and vibrant, Yabba, Nigeria-trained Pharmacist, who, at the time, was working at the CDC Hospital at Ekona. They both got married in 1955 and that Union produced seven Children: Jeff, Henrietta, Eva, Jemea, Mosima, Malingo and Moiti.

Mama,
Enter into your well-earned rest, for your mission on our troubled earth has been valiantly accomplished! May God Almighty grant your soul Eternal Rest, and may He see fit to comfort and guide your grieving family as they seek to chart the way forward without your motherly warmth, wise counsel and reassuring presence.
Rest On, till we all meet to part no more!

A Tribute to grandma

Dear Grandma, it is unfortunate that I never got to see you now that I am all grown.
You were a very kind person. I will treasure all the jewelry and beautiful dresses you sent to me. I will miss talking to you on the phone. I know the angels of heaven are happy to receive you. Grandma, you will always have a special place in my heart. I promise to be a good girl and make you proud.
I love you.

A Tribute to Mammy Martha Namata Elangwe

I came to know this great and vivacious older colleague when
she was sent to work in the maternity ward of the Kumba
district hospital as she was approaching retirement. She took
charge of the premature wing and her expertise in this area
gave a good boost to our tiny babies and their survival rate
was very high. She put in her best, taught the mothers what
to do and what to expect as they return home to nurse their
babies after discharge from hospital.

I wish some of these mothers will tell their babies of her
committed and excellent care as we all join our hearts to bid
her farewell  to our Maker. Your broad  smiles, your many
stories kept us  joyful as we served. Visits to your house in
Kake by sister Susan Ituka and myself were full of stories of
our work and many others which kept us laughing.

My last visit to your home in August 2012 was different
because  you did not give me the smiles due to pain.
Mammy, our Great God has given you a perfect rest
and healing from your pain.

Farewell, Rest in perfect  Peace in God's  presence
till we join you one by one.

We love you and we will miss you.

                                     Mrs Angela Tako.

"MAMI, SAFE JOURNEY”

The last time we spoke, we told you we will be back home this year. Barely weeks to our departure, you no more! I remember you saying you have missed eating your favorite meal – “Achu” for long. We said all will be there when we come. Now you are no more! We cannot ask God why now; for he is our maker, keeper and knows what is best for us. Mami, May the Hand of the Lord guide you every step of the way. Mami Adieu and May Your Soul Rest In Peace!
We miss you

A Tribute to my mother-in –law

Mama there is no word appropriate enough to describe the magnitude of the pain I feel. Your generosity was unconditional. You loved me from the very first day we met. You opened your heart to me and shared your wealth of experiences with me. You tolerated and embraced me even when I had dissenting views on what you stood for. You counseled me whenever you were opportune to do so. I feel lost because who else shall do all these for me?
Mama, your physical absence has created a huge void in our lives that will be daunting to replace. I will truly miss you, but I know for sure that your spirit shall forever dwell with us.
I love you Mom. I pray, the almighty Lord welcomes you in his bosom.

Your Son-in-law

A Tribute to grandma

Dear Grandma, I was so shocked to hear you left us. I never got to see you since I was an infant. Now I’m all grown and you didn’t have a chance to meet me again. I really appreciate all the presents you sent to us (jewelry and gowns) through Uncle Mo, Auntie Eva or Mail them. I love them and I will treasure them forever. I remember all our conversations over the phone. It was always nice to hear your gentle voice. I had plans to visit and spend time with you but God had a better plan. I will dearly miss you. I love you.

A Tribute to Mama

Mama it is so comforting that we were together in April 2013. Mama it is so comforting that we talked, we “forced”, we laughed , and we cried. Mama it is comforting that you told me you are “Born Again”, have accepted Christ as your personal savior. Mama it is so comforting that you told me you are at peace because you have asked for forgiveness from the lord, and you have also forgiven. Mama it is so comforting that you are resting from sorrows and tears in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and no years. Mama I know you are living in the hearts of your children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends because nothing loved is ever lost. Mama it is so comforting that we know that , the absence of the body is the presence with the lord.
Mama we love you, we miss you greatly. God be with you till we meet again!!!
                                                        With love your daughter,

A parent departs, but remains with us in spirit. Forever in our memories. Her wise counsel remains as our guiding principles, leading us to grow old and lean on our own spines that they have nurtured before departure. We thank God for their many fruitful years. Mami rest in peace and be a guardian angel.

Dear Mami, rest is peace in your maker's bosom. Now the Elangwe family knows one more angel personally and by first name. You ran a good race and you deserve rest. Watch over the family.

A Tribute to Mommy

Mommy, I feel warmth around me like your presence is so near. I have built a little library embedded in my heart, for all precious moments we spent together. For as long as I have those memories, we will never be apart. As you sleep in the cradle of the lord, I am reassured of God’s promises in His Holy Word. Job 19:25 “For I know that my redeemer lives and he shall stand at last on the earth; and after my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God”. Sweet mother you worked hard to give us a good life. I pray the Angels of Heaven take good care of you until we meet again.

I miss you MOM

My Prayer

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen

From Dr. Fofung

Tribute to Mamy Martha Ndi Elangwe

The Christmas and New Year have come and gone, gone without my usual end of year or beginning of the year telephone call with that coarse hesitant voice of Mamy Martha Elangwe at the other end of the line wishing me best of tidings and telling me not to work too hard. Speaking in her usually motherly tone, I would be on the other hand feeling guilty and trying to be apologetic which she would usually brush aside “I know you are busy.”

As a child growing up in the Police Barracks in Kumba, we had known mama as a No Nonsense Stern Nurse at the Kumba General Hospital working with Dr. Romero, Dr. Fejer and Dr. Sultanakis. On my way to school in Fiango,  I would bypass her at her entrance on the banks of Kumba water as she was being driven up the opposite direction towards Station.  Needless to say I had never imagined I would one day become one of her adopted children. While she was hospitalized in the Clinic some years ago, I had the opportunity to carry out in-depth discussions with mamy and got to know her better. When we last visited her in kake recently, as she heard our voices in the parlour, she exercised a lot of effort to come and meet us. Little did I know time was approaching.

On that fateful day, I was unable to meet her when she arrived the clinic but did arrange for the rightful person to attend to her. I was not aware that her condition was quite serious. At the close of the day, I went up to check on her just to find her in a non communicating state. She had just slowly slipped away without any adieu. Mama, you have fought that good fight, rest in perfect peace till we meet again.

FROM AGNES NTOKO BEYEGUE

Mama,

You talked several times to your late son Prince NTOKO NTOKO.

You made a statement when mama’s corpse (Mrs.Ntoko) arrived kumba.

You finalized all these by giving Brother Jeff “that” picture a few days before passing away.

Thanks Mama, you are at peace with me.You deserve this rest.
