Marcus has three children, Marcus"Lil Marcus" Crockett (46), Marcellina "Lina" Shade-Scott(44), and Michael "Mike Mike"Shade (41) and four grandchildren.

Marcus graduated from Hughes Highschool in 1976. He continued his education at the University of Cincinnati in 1979 he became the a first generation college graduate earning an associate degree in Library Technician. Having hard time finding a job he enrolled in the United States Army. Being a veteran he was able to secure a job in University of Cincinnati law library.
