I met with mummy a little over 3 decades ago when I joined the Young Adult Fellowship of UMTC Chapel through my friend and big brother, Dele Omotowa. Having lost my mum as a small girl, I saw in her a mother figure. Whenever my dad couldn't make it to church, I used to hitch a ride with bro Dele.
Then came one day, bro Dele didn't make it to church, but mummy did. I was so shy to approach her, she sighted me and asked how I was going to get home, I told her I would find my way, she said she would drop me off. She did, no question asked! That was when I fell in love with this great woman!
Whenever I went to their house to visit brother Dele, which I often did back then, especially when I knew he was engaged and I got to know the awesome sister Tayo, mum never asked any questions. Unlike many mothers who would suspect a young girl's intentions, she never did. There was a day I went and did not meet bro Dele, she asked me to come to the main house and she discussed so many topics with me as if I were her daughter, Tinuke.
She was such a sweet mother. When she was running her doctoral degree in Unilorin, she would always seek me . A girl she just knew from the church.
I told myself I would like to be like her when I grow up. At her age, she was still studying to fulfill her educational dream. A go-getter, an achiever, a mother to all, mummy shall surely be missed.
Mummy was such a humble soul, to young me, she would say "e", imagine that! Mummy would even genuflect in greeting. What a humble being.
A mother to physical and spiritual giants she was; also a giant herself, her stature not minding. In life and in death, mummy, you remain a great model whose story must be told generations yet to come.
I celebrate you ma and pray that we will see one day in glory. The news of your demise came as a shock, but it is amazing to know that you passed away praying. Sleep on rare gem till the gathering of the saints is over. Adieu mummy Margaret Omotowa.
Fondly remembered by Adeola Oladokun Nee Adeniran (A friend to Dr Dele and Dr (Mrs) Tayo Omotowa), Lagos, Nigeria.
