Her Life

Her final story

July 29, 2014

As most of you know, since March 2013, Martha has been valiantly battling renal cell cancer.  She has met all the challenges head on and has done a great job adapting to all of the meds, therapy, rehab, exams and hospital visits.  It has been a hard year but she rarely complained, always enjoyed visitors and with a caregiver was able to retain the independence of her own condo. Though no longer able to drive, Martha expanded her walking which on good days allowed her to do light shopping, get a bite to eat and go to the pharmacy.  In retrospect, “those were good ol’ days” takes on a new meaning. Unfortunately, in May her symptoms and disease took a serious turn for the worse.

It is with sadness to inform you that Martha’s valiant battle over the last year and a half, has now come to an end on July 27, 2014. Yesterday, her day was filled with family, friends as well as a visit from Rabbi Berk. She passed away  in the late afternoon and finally has the much needed peace that she so richly deserved.  Martha was known for her gift of unwavering love and loyalty while expecting little in return.

We all knew her for the thoughtful cards she would send to family and friends far and wide. Though she lived alone, she was anything but lonely. It was her greatest pleasure to remember birthdays, holidays and special events…and now it is time for us to remember her.
