Mama
Today we lost a smile. A warm hug. An “I’m so proud of you,” on the hardest days. A peal of laughter that shook the house, And a whisper the whole room could hear.
We love you, Mama. It’s hard looking forward at the days ahead, Knowing that you won’t be there.
But we’ll still see you In a Costco shopping cart loaded with food. In a buttery toffee imperfectly dipped in chocolate. In a wind off the sea and a wave crashing against the rocks. In a walk on the sand and an ocean sunset. In the smile of every grandchild you so dearly loved, And in the faces of five boys who made you so very proud.
Today we lost a wife, a mama, a grandma, A cheerleader, an inspiration, a listener, a friend.
But we gained a testimony. A deeper knowledge of God’s great plan. A heavenly whisper, cheering us with strength and support along the way. An “I’m so proud of you,” from beyond the veil whenever we need it.
Today we gained a smile And a hug At the finish line of life, when our own earthly journeys are through, And what a joyous reunion that will be.
