My mother Mary Markovich had a pure and beautiful soul that was manifest in her loving and giving lifetime. I'm sure she was a wonderful daughter to my grandparents Majer in Postage, PA. and an outstanding student in school. When she married the the love of her life, my father Edward, she couldn't wait to have us children, even suffering 4 miscarriages before it finally happened. For the rest of our lives, she showered us with love and care. That giving also extended to the rest of her family, friends and neighbors.
She was a great cook and especially loved baking goodies to give away. Her nut bread and cut out sugar cookies at Christmas were legendary, and her lemon meringue pie in demand. My 2 children spent many hours in her care, playing bingo, her favorite past time at the Essex bingo hall where she had a special table with friends, and lots of other games. A true gambler, she also bought lots of lottery tickets and loved the slot machines when Syl took her to casinos. Her yard was always meticulously groomed, planted with colorful flowers, vegetables we ate, and resplendent with varieties of her favorite, r.oses. I can still picture her sitting on the ground on one of the hand-woven carpets her mom made on her loom. I was often a recipient of a gorgeous rose bouquet. Besides babysitting, she also took children and grandchildren into her home when we needed it. She couldn't do enough to make us happy and comfortable! Especially when I was laid up after knee replacement surgery, I am SO grateful for all she did for me.
A devout Catholic, she had a special relationship with angels and believed she could hear them singing or talking. She had a large angel collection of many types. I think she embraced the concept of selfless service to others wholeheartedly, as i have never known a more generous lady!
She had her physical problems throughout her life- hearing loss, 2 types of cancer, and extremely painful osteoarthritis of her knees. Mom was not one to complain, though, and was very brave. She didn't much care for shoes, and it wasn't unusual to see her bare footprints in the frost or snow when she went outside to get the morning paper! Gotta love her!
I like to think the heavenly host of angels greeted her warmly at the gate to Paradise and thanked her for her devotion to them. And her reunion with my dad, whom she lost to heart disease when he was only 57, must have been absolutely something to see in its sheer joyousness! Sweet, kind, loving, generous Mary, home at last
Rest in peace, Mom, I will think of you always with much love! Eileen

I am better at baking than I am at cooking a meal. I know how to make the perfect pie crust, roll out the most tasty sugar cookies perfectly, and wrap a Christmas present with perfectly folded corners because of my Grandma Mary. She taught me many things while I was growing up. Never did she ever let me go without a beautiful flower garden at each of the homes I bought. She spent many hours on her knees in the dirt showing me how to plant, grow, and prune my flowers. I can name more types of flowers than most of my friends thanks to my Gram. Lemon meringue pie and double delight roses instantly remind me of her. There were countless trips up to the corner store on the weekend to get candy and snacks for eating while watching Saturday morning cartoons on her sofa. And when I was old enough, she would send me to get her lottery tickets (probably why I still play weekly myself!). When I wasn't feeling well or had nothing to do she would sit next to me with a pad of paper and play hangman or draw me pictures. I think she may have taught me how to draw a flower! Even when she could not be present because of her failing health, there was always a present with her name on it under the tree at Christmas for us, she would make sure of it! Selfless and generous; that was my grandma Mary. I could go on and on with my memories, but it would be too long for everyone to read.... I'll just end by saying that although I am beyond relieved that she is no longer suffering, I will miss her so very much and think of her often. Thank you so much and rest easy Grandma! XOXOXO Love you always! ~Tammy

What a beautiful and generous woman who loved her family, her garden and the slot machine. I regret that I never got to meet her in person but her essence shines in my friend Sylvia.
