TRIBUTE TO MAMA OSY MY AUNT
“God saw that she was getting tired, a cure was not to be. So, He put His arms around her and whispered, “Come with Me”
For everything there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die. 70 years is all we have, 80 if we are strong-Psalm 90 vs. 10. At 83 years, Mama Osy as we fondly called her, was super strong. Nonetheless, our Christian belief teaches us that the death of a Christian is a passage into eternity. Christians really don’t die, they fall asleep in the Lord. The New Testament is clear on this. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. But the body sleeps until the last day. Our beloved Mama Osy, has just fallen asleep ahead of us and she fell asleep with style, with prayerfulness, with faith, with courage, with grace, and with a heart filled with love and affection for all.
Mama Osy, family meant everything to you and perhaps one of your greatest accomplishments, was building a strong family and home environment. Your children and grandchildren were your treasure and your gift to them is a lasting heritage. You took special and utmost care of your children and ensured that they all attended some of the best schools in the country and came out with sterling performances which reverberated all over and we know you were very proud of the way they all turned out which is a testament to all your hard work, sacrifice, commitment and love for each and every one of them.
Together with your late husband, Gwazuora and our late father Akunnia, you taught us all the value of family relationships, love for one another, and how to ever remain committed and loyal to them. You made personal sacrifices to keep the family united and strong including making one of the biggest sacrifices ever, of giving your son Okey up for the priesthood. Without doubt, no sacrifice can be greater than this. Indeed, your sacrifices did not go unnoticed and will never go away from our consciousness and that of the Church, the body of Christ.
You continued to show tremendous interest and support for the family and genuinely worried and prayed when you felt that things were not going the way they were supposed to and gave useful and constructive advices. We know you were proud of the way we all turned out which is a testament to all your prayers and love for each and every one of us. You bore your illness with equanimity, absolute faith in God and courageously too and never failed to tell us that you were going through your own purgatory in life as a preparatory ground for divine glory in Heaven and we have no doubt that you are now resting in the bosom of our Lord. Each time we visited you, you ended up offering prayers for us and showing more concern for our well being and safety.
You lived your entire life in consonance with the Christian tenet and was a prayer warrior in every respect. Your life was Christo-centric - you lived in Christ and died in Christ and thus shared in the victory of Christ over death. Your death is a celebration of life, for our Christian belief assures us that those who lived in Christ and died in Him shall share everlasting happiness in His bosom. Yours was a life that impacted positively on the lives of others
I am happy that you died in Christ who is your hope in death and as death is inevitable, every mortal must die. I console with the word of God in the book of wisdom 3:1-4, that the souls of the righteous is in the hand of our God, no torment shall ever touch them for their work will follow them. Your passing on is indeed a celebration of life, for our Christian belief assures us that those who lived in Christ and died in Him shall share everlasting happiness in His bosom. Yours was a life that impacted positively on the lives of others and I am exceedingly proud to be your nephew.
Rest in peace dearest Mama Osy! Adieu, until we meet again, to part no more. May your gentle soul rest in the bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ. To God be the glory for a life well lived.
Your nephew,
Chinedu Oguejiofor, FCA
