Matthew John Hession passed away on September 2nd 2017 surrounded by his loved ones.

Matt fought long and hard in his battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.  In his final days, he chose to call the fight, having true grit to the end.

Matt and his wife Joan shared 50 years together as husband and wife as well as the best of friends.  Together in thier work and the raising of thier 9 children.

He enjoyed many hobbies and interests.  Some of which brought joy to those around him. He loved flying model airlplanes and this was an interest that he carried on from childhood, shared with his brothers and passed on to his sons.  Matt also enjoyed learning magic tricks, sharing them with his family and friends.  He owned both a motorcycle and a convertible in his lifetime, enjoying the speed and sense of freedom they represented.  He was an incredibly talented writer, creating a book of his fathers military history.  He enjoyed sharing his knowledge of the Hession family geneology and leaves behind an incredible docket of information for his family to treasure.  He could discuss physics, history, politics, art and enjoyed conversation. He was a lover of science fiction as I imagine his vision for future generations.

He was so proud of his big family.  He loved each and every one of his grandchildren and treasured those relationships... they are his legacy.

He leaves behind his wife, who he adored, Joan Ellen Adie-Hession.  His children, Edward, Robin, JoanEllen, Melissa, Matthew, John, Patrick and Katie, having joined his son Robert who passed just 3 days prior.  His many grandchildren and great grandchildren who he cherished.

His brothers and sisters, Patricia Snell, Sheila Davis, Kenneth Hession, Michael Hession, Robert Hession, Margaret Murillo and Elaine Carnal.

He had a special relationship with many of his nieces and nephews who he was incredibly proud of.  He enjoyed the Hession Family more than you can ever imagine.

My deepest sympathies to your entire family. I know you all through Mary Joyce and know how much you are all hurting right now. What a wonderful life your dad lived and what a valiant battle he fought. May the many happy memories you have of him help you all through this difficult time. My love to you Joan ~ my last memory of Matty is that famous Halloween party in Staten Island. You have so many more happy ones and I pray that they help you at this terrible time. Too much loss for one person, so remember to lean on your wonderful family to see you through...
