Her Life
October 21, 2015

Mrs. Mock was born in Columbia, South Carolina, on March 27, 1943, the daughter of the late Francis Louise Hughes Gantt and Joseph Wheeler Gantt. She was a member of the Glenloch Baptist Church. After moving to Heard County with her husband, and family, Mattie quickly became involved in activities that involved her children and church. For over twenty years she carefully transported the children of the Heard County School System on her bus route. Loving them to and from, and giving wise council when needed. The cheerful, but firm manner in which she guided them while in her care helped to mold many young lives into productive adults. She was particularly mindful of the sick and elderly in the community. Many who were home bound were blessed with delicious and nourishing meals, and special deserts prepared by “Miss. Mattie.” She had a special heart for those who suffered from cancer and spent many hours making afghans for anyone she knew who was suffering from the dreaded disease. She could grow anything, and enjoyed sharing the fruits of her labor with the neighborhood. Her greatest gift was that of her delightful and caring personality. She never met you without remembering to ask about every member of your family. The greatest joy of her life was her family. She loved to have them all together so she could have them enjoy one of her wonderful meals, and so she could enjoy the closeness of them all being together under one roof. Her grandchildren benefit greatly from her attention, and after her retirement she became known as the “grandmother taxi service!” The impact that she made not only on her family, but on all the people she touched through her great love and generosity will long be remembered.

She is survived by her husband, Mack Mock; daughter, Cheryl Clark (Rusty); two sons, Johnny Mock (Angie), and Curtis Mock (Dawne) all of Franklin, GA.; two brothers, Tommy Gantt and Jimmy Gantt (Sherry) all of Bostwick, FL.; and five beloved grandchildren, Alek Mock, Jace Mock, Hunter Clark, Melinda Clark, and Emily Mock, all of Franklin, Georgia
