Michael Campbell Cutts (Mike), 61, died peacefully on Thursday, February 2, 2017 in South Hill, VA surrounded by family. He was born on February 6, 1955 in Oxford, NC to Katie Suitt Cutts and Pettis Stuart Cutts.
Michael graduated from J.F. Webb High School in Oxford, NC and immediately began a long and successful career as a tobacco auctioneer at just eighteen years of age in Adel, Georgia. Sixteen years later, while proudly serving the Danville, VA tobacco market, Michael won the R.J. Reynolds World Tobacco Auctioneering Championship. He is one of only nine men who will ever hold this title.
Michael was a friend to everyone and loved to make everyone smile and laugh. He always had a story to tell that would brighten your day, usually involving his friends Keith Cox, Jimmy Watkins, Barry Dillehay, Robert “Bongo” Currin, Powell Fox, and many others.
He is survived by his son, Michael (Emily) Cutts of Raleigh, NC, and daughter, Jessie (Michael) Decker of Danville, VA, and his three grandchildren: Holland and Edwin Cutts, and Levi Decker. Also, surviving him are his sisters Pam (Frank) Mihalik of Ormond Beach, FL, Melba (Bill) Baker of Clarksville, VA, Cheri (Randy) Hart of Oxford, NC, and Cynthia (Stanley) Tucker of Richmond, VA. Additionally, he is survived by his dear friend Dorothy Alford of South Hill, VA. He is preceded in death by his oldest sister Debbie (Howard) Stallings, mother Katie, and father Stuart of Oxford, NC.
A visitation will take place on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. at Eakes Funeral Home, with a memorial service immediately following at 2:00 p.m.
