Miralee Mary (Gaunt) Dean passed away in Sacramento, CA, on February 22, 2021. She was born to Audry “Ace” & Jessie (Mewes Rich Dikeman) Gaunt in December 1957. She was welcomed home in Phillipsburg, KS by three step siblings, George, Gerry & Georgia Mae & her sister Jean (Gaunt) Hawkins. In 1973 she moved with her parents to Cheyenne, WY where she graduated from East High School in 1976.
Mira was a devoted mother to Joshua Dean & daughter-in-law, Lehia. She looked forward to spending the rest of her life with fiancé, Treneater-Nur C Horton
For the past several years, Mira had health problems including Pulmonary Hypertension. She was adamant about losing weight so she could be a candidate for a lung transplant.
She religiously rode her Echelon bike. She lost over 125 pounds by riding several times & miles a day. The riding community admired her so much that she was given the name “Mama Echelon”.
Other health problems did not allow her to be a candidate for a new lung, but they did not defeat her.
She never complained & insisted on a “I’ll do it“ attitude.
She is remembered for her generous spirit throughout her life; always eager to lend a hand to others. In grade school, at Phillipsburg, she would buy friends treats at Lumpkins until Mr Lumpkin called her folks who put a stop to that!  Another memory from school friends included slumber parties & watching Twilight Zone.
She loved decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas. For years, she & her sister’s families would have themed Christmas parties each year such as Super Heros & Movie Characters.
She had a contagious laugh that made her fun to be around. Her sister, Jean & she laughed & laughed when they got together. Their favorite story to laugh to was when Jean hosted a wedding watch party for Rhoda. Jean had set up chairs & flowers, & guests were Mira & their mom. They would roar with laughter for years each time they talked about Jean asking if they were friends of the bride or groom!
Mira & Jean enjoyed a few trips together including San Diego, Disneyland, Legoland, CA, & to Oregon to visit their brother.
Her son & his wife were the absolute joy of her life. When Josh played sports in school & as an adult, attending his games was the highlight of her week. She took pride in being a sports mom and became like a mother to many of Josh’s team mates.
She was happy that Josh & Lehia found jobs in California that are satisfying & in which they are successful.
She left behind her son, Josh, & daughter in law Lehia, fiancé Treneater, sister Jean & her two half brothers George & Gerry and several nephews & nieces, and her adored Chihuahua, Diva. She was preceded in death by half sister Georgia, her parents, and Josh’s father, McKinley.
Cards & memorial gifts can be sent to Josh Dean, 612 Orange Grove Way, Folsom, CA. 95630

A year later and I still think of the Mira that this Echelon Family got to know. I still remember the funny stories when you were in the hospital that you'd joke about. Like racing up the hall way in a wheel chair and being part of our weekly Not so Accurate News posts where you did the Hospital Fashion News. And through it all you stayed so positive.
You're missed Mira.

MIra, I was so lucky to briefly know you for about 5 months through Echelon riding. Your soft heart, your positive attitude, and your warming kind words are what I remember most. When you joined out group and brought your amazing positivity to the group it was like the morning sunshine that warms the earth. We were buds on a flower waiting to be opened by the warmth of the sun, you were that Sunshine. Your kind heart and positive thoughts are always with me.

There never was a single moment since I entered Mira’s life as Josh’s girlfriend and now wife, that I didn’t feel truly loved and accepted as her own daughter. I will truly miss her infectious laugh, kind loving spirit, and her genuine love to just simply be hanging out with Josh and I. We share many many special memories and I will cherish them always.

I will be thinking and crying over her often. Despite all the health issues she had a joy for life and always had a kind word. We spoke a lot on Facebook and Messenger and I will miss her dearly. Now she is at peace, free of any pain and looking down on us or being with us each time we talk to her or think of her. She was full of love and life and I will miss my friend dearly!

My mother Mira, was one of the most caring, loving & positive minded people I have ever known! Her unrelenting positive attitude could literally light up any room or situation.

My wife Lehia and I, created this sight to give her family and friends an opportunity to share stories, thoughts and memories, to keep her "never give up" spirit alive!!

Please feel free to share your memories, through stories and poems. Anything that makes you think of my Mom, and the positivity she brought into your life!

Thank you for everything Madre, we LOVE YOU!!

“Welcome to Naropa, how can I help you?” Mira said with the biggest smile and the voice of an angel.

“I’m here to apply for the work-study position.” I said.

“How wonderful!” she exclaimed as she ushered me into the conference room where we sat and talked about the ins and outs of the Admissions work-study job.

When she offered me the role, I knew immediately I wanted to work in her office - her energy was so uplifting and nurturing - just what I needed as an 18 year old, fresh out of high school and living on my own, in a new place, for the first time.

Little did I know that moment would begin a 19 year friendship.

Mira,
you weren’t only a dear friend, but you became like a second mom to me.

After I graduated in 2006, our friendship evolved … I was the maid of honor at your wedding … you read my favorite poem at my wedding … I worked for you in your bookkeeping business (that you started after leaving Naropa) and you were my first Virtual Assistant in my business.

You were the epitome of strength, determination and fierce love. You knew what you believed in and weren’t afraid to stand up for it, while at the same time, showering the people in your life with kindness, generosity, understanding and support.

You always made me feel so seen, special and loved… you watched me “grow up” in a sense and I felt like you were proud of my accomplishments like a daughter.

Mira, I knew you were sick … but somehow I thought you were superhuman. You beat the odds for so many years. Even though you faced so many challenges, your positive attitude was contagious and uplifted everyone around you … even when you were suffering.

Lately, when I’ve felt overwhelmed by some of my own health challenges (which are way less serious than what you had to deal with), I think of you and “if Mira could do it, I can do it.” You are my hero, my inspiration.

I’m so glad that you were able to move to California in 2020 to be closer to Josh and Lehia, that you found love and that you soaked up life’s simple pleasures, like dancing in the rain, picking fresh oranges off trees and making ginger bread houses (I know how much you loved Christmas, lol!).

And I’m so glad you found such an amazing community with Echelon … I remember you telling me about all of the incredible friendships you formed and how they sent you the new bike as a gift. You were so lit up and touched.

Mira, I miss you. I love you. I think I’ll go back and listen to “Living My Best Life” videos on your Facebook page over and over again, just to be reminded of your soothing, powerful, beautiful voice.

If you knew Mira, you know what I mean about her voice - it was that of an angel and will live on in my heart forever.

Momma Mira was always someone you could talk too and laugh with and cry with! She loved everyone. Her heart was bigger than this planet! She loved her son Josh and daughter-in-law so much she talked about them every chance she had. She would always tell me funny stories about Lelia's baking and how she didn't like baking but cooking she loved!! Mom also loved her grand babies! Mary-Lynn, Samson Jr., Elijah and Joseph!! Mom and Mary would always go to the garage sales and they would plan everything out the day before. She would also play super hero's with the boys! We all love mom/grandma and will miss her tremendously.

Mira was a second mother to me  and also our group of friends growing up as a kid ,if I wasn’t at home I was at Josh’s house. We had a great childhood and Mira was a big part of that. She was the proudest mom! She loved Josh unconditionally and raised him to be a honorable man. A true blessing to have a mother like that she will always be remembered with love ....
