“She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue”
Proverbs 31:26

Today you would have been 101! I bet you would still be feisty and happy and loving! There is not a day that goes by that I don’t think about you and miss you. I continue to be thankful for the 65 years I had with you and while I am grateful for those years, I really wish I had had more time with you. Your teachings are still guiding my life. And I find myself becoming more like you each day.

You are so missed and always loved and in my heart.

Some days it seems like you have been gone forever and other days it feels like just yesterday you left. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t think about you and miss you. I hold on to the memories-your smile, your laughter, your essence. Thank you for loving me and guiding me. Even though you are not physically here with me I always feel your presence. I am so blessed to be your daughter. I love you and I miss you!

"Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 'Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.'" Proverbs 31:28-29

Today you would have been 100! Even though you are not physically with me, your Love, Guidance, and Spirit are always with me. I am so thankful that God selected you to be my Mother. Of course, I wished we had had more time-1000 years would not have been enough. But I am thankful for the years we did have. I am thankful for you. You are always missed and will forever be in my heart.

“So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.”

Her Life

A Life Well Lived

March 8, 2021
M.L. [Margaret Lucille] Carter Blacher was born December 30, 1923 in St. Francisville, Louisiana to David and Anna Carter.  She graduated from the Independence Rosenwald School and was called and baptized at the Independence Baptist Church by the Later Reverend Joe White.  She joined the senior choir and Sunday school at Independence and was very active in the church.

In the year 1940, she came to New Orleans, Louisiana to live and on February 16, 1941, she was married to Mr. William Blacher.  Her wedding ceremony was performed by her uncle, the late Rev. J.J. Carter.  From this union came one child, a daughter, Felicia Ann Blacher-Wilson.

M.L remembered the Church Covenant when she moved and she ‘united’ with the Stronger Hope Baptist Church, pastored by the late Rev. Carter.  On August 11, 1952, following the death of Rev. Carter, she moved her membership to the Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church.  She joined the Senior Choir her first year at Pilgrim and is still an active member of the choir.

M.L assisted in organizing the Youth Usher Board in September 1974.  she served as counselor to the youth but as the board grew, five other ladies came in as counselors of the youth ushers to assist her.  She then began serving as coordinator of the youth usher board.  The youth ushers took yearly summer trips to places like Niagara Falls, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Georgia, Orlando, Florida, and Houston, Texas.

M.L worked in many capacities in the church.  She was the past chairperson of the Pastor’s Anniversary Committee; past chairperson of the Women’s Day Committee; past chairperson of the Building Fund Program; Chairperson of the Homecoming Day Program and an active member of the Senior Choir.

In addition to her activities in the church, M.L. worked diligently in her community.  She was a member of the NAACP; Veronica Chapter No. 8 Order of the Eastern Stars; past Commander of the Order of Cyrene and a Member of the Golden Circle.

M.L. enjoyed all passages of the scripture but her favorite scripture was Psalms 121 and her favorite song was “When the Gates Swing Open”.
