Dad,
Today would have marked your 97th anniversary on earth. In ways I am saddened that you are no longer with us, but in others I am glad and relieved. Something I am sure you would understand.
I want to thank you for teaching me to look at two sides to every story; for trusting others (even to excess); for the loved you gave me for flowers and gardening. There are more that will come to me as the days, months and years continue on.
You were concerned for the last couple decades that you were not a good father to your sons and step-children. As we repeatedly told you in our conversations, the proof is what can be seen. We were/are a family that remains together and in communication. That cannot be said for many families today. We have our moments, but we have love for each other—that is what we learned from you and can put in your success cap.
Dad—WE DO LOVE YOU.
Your son--Russell
