His Life

Callis Jerome Davis was born June 15, 1951 in Russell County, Alabama to the parentage of the late Robert and Mary Lois Floyd Davis. He was reared in the loving home of his maternal uncle and his wife, Robert and Genie Mae Murphy Floyd, whom he affectionately called Mom and Dad. Callis accepted Christ at any early age and joined Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. S. T. Martin. An active member of his church, he served as a Deacon for over 30 years and sang in the Male Choir until his health declined.

Callis was a 1969 graduate of Rehobeth High School in Valley (Fairfax), Alabama. After graduation, he was united in holy matrimony to his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Walker. They enjoyed 47 years of marriage and from their union, four children were born. He enjoyed a career as a Tire Builder with Uniroyal Goodrich Tire Plant in Opelika, Alabama, retiring after 30 plus years of service. While there, he also served as a Union Representative. Mr. Davis was also a public servant and served his community as a Lanett City Councilman for 12 years. Callis enjoyed the outdoors. Some of his favorite hobbies were planting flowers and being with his horses.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Frankie Lee Avery; his sister, Eva Mae Smith; and, his father-in-law, Arthur Walker. Callis Jerome Davis departed this life on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at EAMC Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley, Alabama.

His survivors include: his devoted wife, Elizabeth Walker Davis; one daughter, Carla Davis; three sons, Spencer Davis, Quincy (Tanyell) Davis and Tracy (Adrean) Davis; seven grandchildren, Courtney Davis, Jordan Davis, Quintavious Davis, Jayden Davis, Trayvontae Davis, George Davis and Gerentezz Davis; one great-grandchild, Cam’ron Davis; two cousins who were reared as his siblings, Brenda Murphy ( Christopher) Billinglsey and Willie James (Mae Frances) Murphy; his mother-in-law, Lelia Pearl Walker; five brothers-in-law, Arthur (Betty) Walker, Jerry (Patricia) Walker, Eddie (Bridgett) Walker, Joseph (Kathy) Walker and Wayne (Keshia) Walker; six sisters-in-law, Mary Lois (David) Watson, Mae Ruth (Jimmy) Thomas, Patricia (Eddie) Harris, Brenda (Gary) Wright, Christine (Ervin) Gibson and Dorothy (Roosevelt) Gibson; and, a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
