Her Life
June 9, 2013

Essie Mae Dunn was born March 3, 1935, in Chambers County, Alabama she was the first of six children born to the parentage of the late Reverend Willie Dunn, Sr. and Flora Wilson Dunn. On June 5, 2013, in Forest Park, Georgia, God whispered her name and she quietly answered the call and went home to be with her Lord.

She accepted Christ, at an early age, and began her Christian journey with the Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church in Valley, Alabama. Later she united with the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Valley, Alabama, where she served faithfully, in many capacities, until her health failed.

In September of 1961, she was joined in Holy Matrimony with John Morgan, Jr. This union lasted for 30 years, until God called him home in 2001.

Miss Essie retired from the George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital, after working as a Certified Nursing Assistant for more than 40 years. She worked 20 years in the Maternity Ward, where she helped to deliver many children in the surrounding Valley area. Then she spent the last of her working years at the nursing home with Lanier, helping to nurse many of our ailing family members during their last days. She loved caring for people and her compassionate spirit helped her to gain much respect and recognition on her job and within personal life. She had a great love for crossword puzzles and crocheting. She was a quiet woman, and she loved her family, church and friends.

She leaves to cherish her memory five children: Janice (Bill) Vaughn, Forest Park, GA; the Reverend Henry (Tammy) Cooper, Valley, AL; Michael (Sandra) Morgan, East Point, GA; Anita (Lamar) Chisom, Atlanta, GA; Tony (LaTangy) Morgan, LaGrange, GA; two step-children: Jerome (Patricia) Dozier , Atlanta, GA; Gwendolyn Ann (Wayne) Jones, West Point, GA and one granddaughter whom she raised, Tina Morgan (Cassius) Oneal, LaGrange, GA; 24 Grandchildren; 58 Great- Grandchildren; and 9 Great-Great Grandchildren; one sister: Willie Pearl (Allen) Radford, Chicago, IL;  four brothers: the Bishop Willie (Louise) Dunn, Jr., Salt Lake City, Utah; Willie Gene (Renatta) Dunn, Chicago, IL; Johnnie Dunn, Ellenwood, GA; and Henry Lee (Linda) Dunn, Mableton, GA; one sister-in-law: Lelia Williams and one brother-in-law: Bobby Lewis, both of Phenix City, AL; special friends: Mae Chambers, Dorothy Johnson, Mary Willie Tucker, Roberta Walker, Betty Towles and her longtime hairdresser Corinthian Woody, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
