Her Life

Janie Williams (affectionately known as “Big Mama”) was born on May 7, 1922 in Chambers County, AL to the late Charlie Potts and Fannie Patrick Potts. In need of another Angel, God gave her wings and called her home on Friday March 24, 2017 at the East Alabama Medical Center Lanier Nursing Home, Valley, AL.

She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and united with the St. John Baptist Church in Lanett, AL, where she served on the Missionary Board, Usher Board, as a Choir Member, a member of the Deacon’s Wives Auxiliary, and as a Sunday School Teacher.

She attended Chamber County Schools and later worked as a hard dedicated worker. She was employed with West Point Pepperell for many years. After retirement she became employed by the state Of Alabama, and later as a homemaker.

Janie loved to cook, clean, read her bible and to sing her favorite church hymns.

She was preceded in death by her husband Virgil Williams Sr., her son Jesse Heard, and her nine siblings.

Janie leaves to cherish her daughter Celia Thomas (Robert) Atlanta, GA, a granddaughter, who also served as her caregiver, Erica Thomas Atlanta, GA; 10 grandchildren, 29 great grand, 15 great great grandchildren, two close cousins, Mae Moss, Lanett, AL, Christine Carter, Cincinnati, Ohio and a host of other relatives and friends.
