Her Life
October 4, 2017

Ruby Mae Burton was born July 12, 1945 to Henderson and Emma Lou Heard Burton in Lee County, Alabama. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at a very age and joined Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

Ruby received her education in the Lee County and Chambers County School Systems, attending McCullough School, Wacoochee High School and Rehobeth High School respectively. After 35 plus years of service Ms. Burton retired from West Point Stevens. She was also a great cook and worked as such for three former local restaurants – Triangle Inn, The White House and Thomas Lounge. Her all time special dish was cheese and eggs, and we couldn’t get enough!!

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henderson Burton and Emma Lou Murphy; granddaughter, Lauren Alexis; two brothers, George West Burton and Willie Clarence Burton; sister-in-law, Linda Burton and brother-in-law, Merrell “Preacher” Madden. On Sunday, October 1, 2017, God summoned Ruby from her home in Valley, Alabama to a home of eternal rest.

A lifetime of memories will forever be engraved in the hearts of her loved ones: two dedicated, devoted and committed daughters, Elaine Burton (Larry) Brooks and Lisa Burton (Lawendell, Sr.) Roberts; her most precious grandson, Lawendell C. Roberts, Jr.; eight caring sisters and brothers, Bernice Madden, Annie B. Burton, Sarah (Johnny C.) Patterson, Sandra Murphy, Harriet (Larry) Patton, Earnest K. (Clara) Murphy, James Murphy, Sr. and Michael Murphy, Sr.; one aunt, Mary Wilburn; sister-in-law, Clara Burton; and, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
