EARLY LIFE:
Our dear mum Rahab Mugure Kirui was born on April 21st, 1950 to Willie Kamau and Fresiah Wanjiru in Thogoto Village, Kiambu County. Mum was the 2nd of 10 children: Njambi, Njahira, Wanyua, Kamunyu, Waithira, Njenga, Ndungi, Waruimbo and the late Moses Thwagi.
She grew up in Thogoto, attended Thirime Primary School & Kikuyu Day Secondary School.
FAMILY LIFE:
Mum met her loving husband, the late Peter Kirui Muthiora and celebrated their marriage in 1969. Together they were blessed with 6 Children: Antonia Wanjiru, Martin Muthiora, Kent Kamau, Immaculate Njambi, and the late Mary Njeri and Catherine Wambui. Her family meant the world to her! Sadly, when her husband died unexpectedly in 1983, she was left to singlehandedly fend for the young family. Mum was a doting grandmother to Mumbi, Mugure, Shishi, Jayden, Njoroge, Angie, Aniel, Aviela, Ariela, David, Jonathan, and the late Sherry. She was a beloved cousin and auntie to many.
CHURCH & COMMUNITY SERVIVCE:
Many people called Rahab Nyina wa Njeri, and she cherished her community. Mum established a reputation for hard work and a keen acumen for business to support the budding family. She thrived by sheer dint of effort and creativity.
Through her businesses Rahab supported many development initiatives because serving others was an essential part of her life. Charity was close and dear to her heart. She firmly believed in helping those in need and giving back to society. During the political clashes over the 2007 elections, she took in 6 children from hotspot areas.
From a tender age, mum was active in the Orthodox Church, Kagira where she was baptised. In later life she was a member of P.C.E.A. Church St. Andrews, Nairobi.
LATER YEARS
Our dear mum battled diabetes for several years. She developed several acute complications and passed on at 9 p.m. on July 29th, 2021 at Agha Khan Hospital. The family sincerely thanks the doctors and nurses who took care of mum's health and labored to find a solution for her illness. Special thanks to her very talented endocrinologist, Dr. Paul Ngugi.
UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN
April 21st of this year marked mum’s 71st birthday. She wore many hats including being a proud mother, grandma, and friend to many. Looking back one can truly say hers was a life well lived and the heavenly host has called her home.
Mum, your earthly suite is no more! You stepped into Eternity, and you're now in a glorified, disease-free body, singing and dancing on the streets of gold together with the host of heaven. Your parting with us was not an end but a magnificent beginning; the terrestrial just got swallowed up by the celestial. We can't wait to meet you at heaven's front gate when our temporary assignment on earth is complete!
