Dr. Nadia Rubaii is an integral part of my life. I met her in 2015 at an international conference in India. She encouraged me to join Binghamton University's interdisciplinary Ph.D. program. I got an opportunity to do my Ph.D. at Binghamton University. Now I successfully defended my dissertation. Dr. Rubaii will be so happy as I chose the path she showed me. She was an amazing person who left a lifelong impact on me. Wherever you are Dr. Rubaii, you will be in peace, and hope to see you soon on the other side of life.

I'm very sorry to hear of Nadia's passing. Condolences to her family and friends and to Binghamton University's Institute for Genocide and Mass Atrocity Prevention (I-GMAP). Nadia was admired by the people of Iran for joining several open letters calling on the United Nations to investigate the 1988 Massacre of political prisoners. I will always be grateful to have met Nadia and her impact on my life. She was crucial in my coming to America to study. For us international students at Bing, she helped us when the COVID outbreak left us with no idea what would happen to us when the borders closed, and our visas were about to expire. I always had an email or message from her asking how I was doing from time to time, and I appreciated she cared about me outside school. I'll cherish our last day in person, on a cold fall day in NYC. That day we spent hours together, walking around the city, eating, laughing, and talking about how excited she was about the world entering some form of normalcy and being able to travel again. She was so positive, had so many plans and so much energy! We should remember her always working, being straightforward in her demeanor, having things to do, her dog at her office, and having a positive attitude.

Professor Rubaii, I will forever remember your beaming smile and the sound of your laughter. Although it was short, it was a true blessing and an honor to have gotten to know you. I know you will always be with us, in our hearts, as we continue our fight against mass atrocities around the world. May your soul Rest in Peace.

I never had Professor Rubaii as a teacher but was fortunate enough to have her as my advisor when I was admitted into the MPA program. In the few interactions we were able to have whether it was during our scheduled appointments or passing by her office when I was on my way to class or exiting from one, she would readily greet me with a warm smile that made it impossible for me to keep a conversation under 5 minutes, which speaks a lot as someone who is an introvert. Her bright attitude and determination are just a few of the aspects that resonated with me to carry on in my careers and I hope we can all carry on her legacy by following the examples that she set as a professor, friend, and leader.

I'll always remember Dr. Rubaii for her unmatched wit and genuine care for all people. My favorite memory of her was in late February 2022, when she was belly laughing with Professor Pensky and the rest of the I-GMAP crew at Dr. Whigham's book launch. Her eyes lit up every time she spoke, and you could physically feel the happiness radiating from her. I'm forever grateful to have had such a strong and compassionate role model. I first got to know Nadia as a professor and mentor, and then as a colleague and friend. She was a tireless academic and activist and an extraordinary human. I'm deeply grateful for her patience and guidance over these last few years, which should have been many more. My first publication was co-authored with her and another former student. The research and writing process was guided by her keen academic and critical eye, but so enjoyable and filled with laughter. I'm deeply saddened to know that this ended up being one of her last publications. I'll miss visiting her office and seeing Pisco, who she affectionately called the Atrocity Prevention Pit Bull, and talking with her about my own two pit bulls. I'm a better person for knowing her, and I will work hard to carry on her work.

Being a visiting scholar at SUNY Binghamton, I had the opportunity to meet Nadia several times. Always she gave patience hearing if I discussed any issues, and then shared her opinions. I found in her a person with good soul and warm heart. She was a serious academic. Just few months before the pandemic starts, I had the opportunity to meet her beyond our campus - in Phnom Penh, Cambodia where we were attending a conference of International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS). Just a few days before of her demise, I had an email communication with her. Never thought so quick she would be no more. My heart felt tribute to her.  

I am finding it very hard to put into words what the loss of Nadia means to me. She was an incredible friend, an inspiring colleague, a tireless academic, a deeply committed activist and a very very good person. She has changed the lives of so many for the better and she made doing good look easy. The world is a lot worse today because of our losing Nadia. Nadia, I promise to work with your community to continue your work and to tirelessly make things better. Thank you for your incredible generosity.

I still think of all your support and encouragement and I am immensely grateful to have met you. May your soul Rest In Peace.

Our editorial and scientific community is grieving. Binghamton Professor Nadia Rubaii, founding co-editor of Gobernar: The Journal of Latin American Public Policy and Governance, has passed away (March 14, 2022).

We all lost an affable friend and an enthusiastic colleague.

Nadia worked intensively and vividly for spreading the boundaries of the field. She was an outstanding leader of the Network of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA) as well as of the Interamerican Network of Public Administration Education (INPAE).

She preached by example the values of the finest human being and a fecund scholar. She was a living example of an academic devoted to improving the world, enhancing diversity, and reducing exclusion.
Her dynamism always inspired us and created an inertia that will continue shaping this Journal.

We shall honor her legacy by following her example of working with passion and vision to improve others' lives.

An irreplaceable heart and force in our lives. A truly humble human, mentor, friend and confidant, she will be missed and leave a hole to all who knew her.

Nadia, we miss you a lot . in each and every step of us after our big decision, you led us and helped with more than full of your efforts. We are heartbroken. I can't express with words that how much we are feeling loss with this devastating news of you. We've never thought of this day would come so fast. I promise you that I will continue whatever the effort to make you proud in the field of creating world's peace and preventing mass atrocities by a civil society actor and a practitioner in the field of women rights, sexuality and gender justices.

Prof. Nadia, interviewed me via zoom alongside Prof. Max from Kampala, Uganda during the pandemic of 2020. She is a great leader that will be greatly missed around the world. She even, added that she looked forward to welcoming me to Binghamton - an area I am quiet familiar with during my stay in the United States in 2011 as a visiting University scholar/fellow. Tuve el agrado de conocer a la docente Rubaii en Agosto de 2018. Ella siempre mostró apoyo y empatía para los estudiantes de la beca Fulbright. Desde hace varios años se había venido trabajando una iniciativa en crear la asociación de estudiantes Fulbright en la universidad de Binghamton. La doctora Rubaii siempre apoyaba en la organización de reuniones para que esta iniciativa tuviera sus frutos. Una vez ya formada la asociación siempre estuvo asistiendo a nuestras actividades. Todos los miembros nos sentiamos motivados por su buen trato y cariño. Los estudiantes Fulbright tuvimos a un ser maravilloso quien siempre se mantuvo atenta a nosotros. I will be eternally grateful for having met Dr. Rubaii. May her soul rest in peace, and her family find relief in remembering the beautiful moments they lived togheter.

It is hard to find right words of describing such loss of Profess Rubaii, her passion and dedication to create a peaceful and inclusive world, was a great identity of IGMAP. Her warm heart, her listening and her capacity to understand everyone, Will be my unforgettable memory of her. May her soul rest in eternal peace. 

Met Nadia briefly at the I-GMAP's Prevention of Mass Atrocities conference in 2019, and her commitment and drive to the cause were unflinching. Always with a smile and willingness to expand the frontiers of collaboration and knowledge. Wishing her close ones the fortitude needed at this time and praying she continue to live on in her works.

Dr. Nadia Rubaii was the first one who introduced me to GMAP minor. She kindly came to my learning community class and discussed about the importance of GMAP, IGMAP's vision, and her work in the field. She kindly asked each of our names, our goals as students, and invited to join her and her colleague's mision. Every time I went to her office to consult, she would kindly greet me. Every time I sent an email to discuss about other issues, she would gladly help me out. Whenever I went to the downtown center to study and met her, she would encourage me and other students. It was her enthusiasm, dedication, and sincerity that brought me to GMAP and passionately study as a GMAP minor. Although I have only known her for a couple of months, she left such an impact in my life; I cannot imagine how much she was a blessing in other people's lives. May she rest in peace.

I am so shocked and saddened by this news. Nadia (and so many she inspired) made indelible contributions to the field of genocide and mass atrocity prevention. I am forever grateful for the kindness and encouragement she always shared with me. My deepest condolences to her family, colleagues, and students. 

Sending so much love to Professor Rubaii's family and friends. She taught one of my first classes in college and introduced me to new ways of thinking, the passion an educator can have for the subject they study, and the kindness and care a professor can show their students. She has always been a source of encouragement for my peers and I and has continually supported us in education and personal growth. Forever thankful for the opportunity to have such a wonderful, intelligent, and caring person in my life.

Nadia was the first professor I reached out to when I became interested in GMAP. She taught and guided me throughout my last semester of undergrad and has continued to support me whenever I needed help since graduating. She was genuinely so passionate, attentive, and actively dedicated to making the world better. Her loss is a shock. I will miss her guidance, but am so thankful for the impact she had on my life.

I came to know Nadia through her work in and vision for international education at Binghamton University. Whether assessing study abroad proposals or seeking ways to internationalize our curriculum right here on campus, she brought a passion for crafting world citizens marked by ethical and compassionate engagement with the globe. Her strength, integrity, and warmth have always inspired me. I will miss her deeply.

Professor Nadia Rubaii was a wonderful professor who taught me the value of small, cumulative efforts to make the world better. I was a student in her Micro Dynamics of Mass Atrocity course in which I learned so much from the conversations she made space for in our class and from her encouragement for me to apply an atrocity prevention lens to my field of urban planning. She is a very inspiring person who will be very missed, and her impact will live on in her students.

She was a remarkable woman and there are truly no easy words for the void her loss has left in many hearts. Sending love and prayers to her family, friends, and colleagues. May we honor her legacy by walking in her foot-prints.

I am truly loss at words. She was such a passionate and warm soul who really cared about what happened around the world and made sure that the voices of those who are silenced in the Global South countries could be heard in America. I actually discussed with Professor Rubaii that I will ask a transgender woman from Pakistan to speak in one of her classes in the upcoming fall semester of 2022. She was so appreciative of this gesture of mine. I am blessed that before graduating and what was known to be the last semester Professor Rubaii would ever teach, I attended her class and got to know her both as a professor as well as a human being. I will eternally be thankful to Nadia for the guidance, support, and comforting hugs she offered me. She was my first professor as a first-year undergraduate student and the passion with which she taught motivated me to go into the GMAP field. She constantly sent me scholarships, internship opportunities, and was always there for academic and career advice. She altered my life path in such a positive way.
