Letter to Nick
May 1, 2022
Dear Nick,
We miss you and cherish the many memories we shared together Scott, Su and I. I remember our last weekend celebrating your birthday in Oct. We were planning on visiting and it happened to be your birthday. Scott took that Friday off, so we were able to get an early start making it to Pine by noon. After lunch you took your afternoon nap while Su and I enjoyed the shops around Pine.
That evening for your birthday dinner Su made spaghetti and we had your favorite dessert, tiramisu. You were in good spirits and enjoyed the meal and updated us on your health issues. You informed us you were not doing well and it was a struggle just walking up the stairs from your basement office. I wonder, were you preparing us for your passing? Later that evening we played Monopoly and Su won.
As the evening progressed you enjoyed opening your birthday gifts including a record player from Su to play your Ukrainian music. You seemed to like the Superman pajamas I got you, calling them grandpa lounge pants which I thought was cute. Instead of the birthday card Scott said we should given you a going away card, which you thought was funny.
On Saturday when we got back from our hike, we set outside enjoying the cool weather and talking about the fence you and Su wanted around the property to keep the elk and neighbor dogs at bay. Around dinner time Scott fired up the grill and prepared one of your favorite meals, steak medium rare and Su and I prepared the baked potatoes and salad. You always looked forward to bread and dessert for dinner. We suggested a movie you might like but you were tired and wanted to retire early.
Early Sunday you were in your basement office working on files and Scott spend time with you watching YouTube videos. They were an assortment of odd fellows living a wandering sailor’s life with just the bare necessities living day to day. I came down to the basement that morning and suggested your next project might be digitizing your thousands of slides.
There was a sadness hanging in the air which I had no words for. When it was time to leave Scott and I gave you a big hug, and kiss and we told you we loved you and hoped we would be visiting again soon.
Somewhere in our hearts we thought perhaps this was our last weekend with you. Now we are left with our fond memories of you. I will always remember you as a, A Life Well Lived.
Love Always Margie & Scott

A Life Well Lived

A life well lived is a precious gift
Of hope and strength and grace,
From someone who has made our world
A brighter, better place
It’s filled with moments, sweet and sad
With smiles and sometimes tears,
With friendships formed and good times shared
And laughter through the years.
A life well lived is a legacy
Of joy and pride and pleasure,A living, lasting memory
Our grateful hearts will treasure.
