A TRIBUTE TO ONE OF US: FAROUK SOLOLA
April 28, 2021
It
is with heavy hearts that we have to put this piece together. Farouk, aka
Farukee, was admitted into Ibadan Grammar School – IGS, in January 1959, like
all of us. We were together as mates all our Secondary School days, as well as
jolly friends. By December, 1963, after the School Certificate Examination, we
parted ways and some stayed on for their Higher School Certificate – HSC
Course, in our Alma – Mater.
He was diligent, obedient and brilliant student. He was trustworthy and loved by many. He was in Olubi House, and resided in “Extension Block”. He was a boxing enthusiast, along with the likes of – Adebola Johnson, alias Dodo, Olumeko, Wole Adeyemi and others. They organized the school’s Boxing Club in which Snr. Taiwo, alias Fatai Paso was the Chairman. He also served as a Boxing Referee. He was also a good footballer. He kept for his House and eventually became the school’s goalkeeper in 1965, in his HSC Class.
After completing our various disciplines and studies, and now adults, we came together again in Lagos to establish the Golden Jubilee Set Old Boys Association of IGS. Farouk took over the Secretariat later, and managed the class-set for several years. He did a fantastic job! We all appreciated him.
He served the class-set till his death. At the main body of the school’s association, Lagos Branch, Farouk did his best.
We all love you, but Allah loves you best.
Sleep in His bosom.
Adieu!
