Grandma in Ikoyi Towers

February 7, 2014
Grandma in Ikoyi Towers

I remember Mama helping us with my newly born brother Emeka. I recall standing on a small stool in the kitchen to wash off the breakfast dishes. When I came back to the room, I felt like I had been working and mama had done nothing but watch this little boy while I slaved in the kitchen. I said something saucy to that misguided thought and boy do I recall getting a whooping from someone. Not sure who because I don't ever recall Mama touching me, so she must have relayed it to Mom or Dad. She was always serving, singing, praying, giving me what little she had to go to school back then.

I recall when we would have our spats, I would huff and not read her Queen Premier to her...that was our constant time together. That and the morning Agbo medicine we were forced to swallow.

Mama was awesome and she would pray and taught me all these songs in Igbo..."Cha-cha m o...nna" . Mama Ojiake, rest well. You have done well.

xx 'Anwuli nwa yi'.
