Her Life

My Best Friend in the World

January 5, 2013

My Mom was the most amazing person I have ever known. She was the kindest, most loving, sincerest of any human being ever on this Earth.

She was born and raised in Houston, Texas and she lived there until our Lord took her to be with Him.

My Dad and Mom divorced in 1977 and after that, Mom didn't trust in men very much so she rarely dated even though she was only 50 at this time. She was still very active in church, she loved to dance, she sang with the Sweet Adelines for over 25 years and she truly adored playing Dominoes. Oh, and she loved to tell jokes but bless her heart, she always had trouble recalling the punchlines! :)

And one night in the late 1990's, she went to play Dominoes as usual on Tuesday at her dear friend Joyce's home, and in walks this man and a woman. Joyce, being the wonderful hostess as she always was, went to introduce the man to my Mom and he stops her and says "Oh you don't have to introduce me to this lovely little lady, I have been in love with her since high school in 1944!" In fact, she was dating my best friend Paul and I was too shy to let her know how I felt so I swiped her photo from Paul and I still have it in my wallet!" Imagine them meeting again more than 50 years later!

Mom says to him, well I sure hope you can dance!

From then on, they were together and very happy! I was maid of honor at their wedding and that church was filled to capacity. Everyone loved my Mom and Pop Leonard! When the pastor was saying the vows and it was Mom's turn, he mentions the word Obey and my Mom visibly hesitated, so much so that the entire church broke out in laughter! She finally said well I think I can work with that.......

He took her to Las Vegas for their honeymoon and they went on cruises around the world and he cherished my Mom in every way a man can cherish his wife! I learned from them how a marriage should truly be. From then on, he would help her recall the punchlines and finish sentences for her! So much joy and laughter they shared for ten years!

They were both there for me in every way possible and I always knew I had my cushion/rock/support system whenever I might of needed it in my Mom and my Pop Leonard.

When Mom went to Heaven, Pop tried his best to hang in there and live on Earth but that wasn't meant to be as he truly died of a broken heart less than two years later. I know they are together again now in Heaven and that is so very comforting to me. They were true soulmates that we all dream of finding!

I wanted to have this as a tribute to my precious Mom and also for my Pop so I can come visit anytime and so can their friends and family.

You are both missed and loved so very much!

I love you from the bottom of my heart!

Your Loving Daughter,

Susan Stacy
