Forever Missed is right ....

March 20, 2022
Good morning Dad on March 20, 2022 - Sitting here in the living room remembering back when you would visit, come into the same living room - say "good morning" just a little bit too loud because you were a little hard of hearing and you and I would leave the house to go get breakfast somewhere.  What a simple, fun memory!  Going through your photos posted by others - what a wonderful life of Ohio family, military, married family, your kids and grandkids!  I pray that we are all so lucky to be actively engaged with those we love until the very end.  Love, P2

Missing you Buddy!

June 15, 2020
Paul's nickname as a young kid was Buddy and that he was.  I miss him and so often have that fleeting thought "think I'll call Paul" only to quickly realize I can't.  I kind of console myself by thinking "he's ok because he's probably visiting with Mom and Dad and some of his Buddies who have joined him in heaven.

God bless you Paul.   Love you always

PES Legacy

June 15, 2020
PES, I see P2 left a nice note...so thought I would chime in. As I told P2, you are quoted around here almost daily. You left me with one of the most powerful phrases known to mankind. It can be used as an answer to almost any question and also a response to most any statement....you used it a lot in those last months and I picked it up as did Lin. What is that all powerful word? MAYBE - Thanks for that one!

A few other choice PES phrases work their way in regularly as well. For example, "That's Tasty!", "Holy Cow!", 'Really???",  "I did NOT know THAT!"

Miss you bro....

D

p.s. Of course there is ONE phrase I don't miss so much " Can you go on TEAM VIEWEEER?"

Our 1 year anniversary

June 15, 2020
Dad - Good morning!  If you were still here, you would probably already be up.  We both like the quiet solitude of the early morning.  It is so restful, so still it gives the perfect way to prepare for the coming day.  Last night, we had a Zoom call (Uncle Don would have for sure helped you with Zoom by now) to reflect on the 1 year since your passing.  We all so miss those phone calls with you that started with our wonderful nicknames.  We would get caught up with you, update you on your grandkids and then plan when you would come for a visit.

We all think of you in our own separate and uniquely personal ways.  This last year, I went to my 35 year high school reunion.  I hooked up with JP, we drove around Denton, had lunch at Denton Independent Hamburger.  There were about 25 people old friends there.  I saw Scott Robinson after all these years.  I saw Jackie Vogel from our church.  She is still married to Tom Bresnahan - cannot remember how many kids they have.  We went by the old house and Londonderry Washhaus.  It reminded me of when we got chased by the guy over by Frank Borman Elementary - crazy and kinda' scary that he chased us.  In a tribute to you, I reached out to another old friend - Trey Darby to reconnect.  He is living in Irving now, divorced and re-married.

Quick update on us - Donna recently reached a breast cancer survivor milestone - she has just stopped taking Tamoxifin.   It is a hormone suppressant drug that she took daily for 5 years.  It was a big day when she took her last pill.  I am so proud of her.  Michael is going into his senior year at A&M still with a 4.0  in Electrical Engineering.  He is president of his Men's Organization - Century's and was selected to the highest honor A&M can bestow on students.  He was selected to be Maroon Coat.  He has a second summer internship with Boeing but because of corona virus, they cancelled his in person internship.  He and his roommate Cade (Microsoft) were supposed to go to Seattle.  They were both so disappointed that they changed it "work from home".  Not really the same, but it is safe and he gets to spend the summer in College Station (which I always really liked).  Maria has an upcoming try out for Colonel of her Cougar Star drill team.  The other girls on drill team really want her to be Colonel.  It makes me so nervous to think about.  She is  also going to start the college admission process this year.  Arkansas is still high on the short list.  With her SAT and class rank, we don't think it will be a problem getting in.  You would love University of Arkansas - it is larger than Miami University but a smaller feel than A&M.  The school feels like a smaller, less funky version of UT.

I love looking at the pictures we have of you around the house!  We will chat again.  Miss and love you so much, from Paulie / Son 1.

When I was about 2 yrs old I had a huge surprise for Christmas! Santa came!!! I was pretty scared because Santa didn't look "quite right"! His beard was a bit different and I could see his socks and white bean pole legs and those funny gray gloves yet there was something familiar about him. But he was just not quite like the Santa I saw on TV. As you may have guessed it was Paul dressed up as Santa. To top things off he had something in that funny pillow cover he had with him. He reached in and - "Oh My!" I knew I should be scared..he had a MONKEY stuffed in there! I couldn't wait for that scary Santa to leave...bye bye Santa, Nice seeing you....see you next time..bye! Well that monkey, Zippy, is still with me today sitting in a chair in my office!

A Younger Sister's Memories ;)

June 21, 2019

"As time goes by" Paul was a music fancier and loved to dance. He would "rope" me into going to big band dances at Cedar Point, Rainbow Gardens or wherever to go with one of his buddies who hadn't gotten a date. Not my best memory but in retrospect it was fun.

I also remember when we lived in Attica he had a paper route. However, he was very, involved with basketball and baseball , so often he couldn't deliver the papers or collect. Well, as you may have guessed , I was designated to do the job. No pay but..........

When I remember our dinner table or breakfast table Paul was sitting at a corner of the table with the newspaper (sports page) taking up a lot of space. I complained but it did little good.

One more memory.....when I was about 5 or 6 we lived in Attica and were out in the yard playing baseball. He was up to bat and of course I was designated catcher. He told me to move but I didn't do it fast enough and BAM the bat came back and hit me in the mouth. Off to doctor for stitches.

Notice the number of times I mentioned "designated"? Hmmmm. I did love him though. He was one of a kind and I'm so glad he was my big brother.

Love always your sister Carol

Paul's approach to Golf

Paul grew up an avid sportsman. He loved most any sport but he excelled at basketball playing varsity basketball in High School as well as pole vaulting on the varsity track team. When he went to Miami of Ohio, he hoped to be able to make the basketball team. He went out and played initially trying to walk on to the team. He found out quickly that there was a lot of major competition on the Miami U team and that it wasn't likely he would see a lot of playing time. So Paul, never one to let adversity slow him down switched over to Track and Field where he made the Track Team in Pole Vaulting. He lettered there in Track and Field!

Lets get back to that adversity thing. As a kid growing up, I always thought Paul must be a scratch golfer. I was a tennis nut and played nothing but tennis until a bit later in life. I worked on my golf game and got down to a single digit handicap. Then I started getting Paul to come out and play a bit of golf with his younger brother. Then I found out that while Paul had a lot of natural skills in golf and was VERY coachable, he had a bit of hacker in him. In later life he never let that stop him. He worked his way around any issues later in life by liberalizing the rules here and there.  A PRIME example is the video attached here taken at a round I played with him at St. Andrews. He did NOT know I was videoing him!

Paul the Painter

June 16, 2019

Paul was always somewhere helping someone with something that needed to be done. He came out to Hilton Head to help me with some painting in our new home. I gave him the paint, brushes and directed him to a bedroom and closet that needed paint. I also lent him a blue sweatshirt since it was a bit cold in the house. He came out shortly after and announced "done"! That was all good but as I looked closer my blue sweatshirt now had a swath of white paint on the front AND the back..it looked like someone had taken a roller and painted him! I said, you painted yourself into a corner in the closet didn't you......answer (Pauls FAVORITE answer) ...."Maybe")
