Apai was born to Mr, Bastav and Rita Rodrigues from Molkod  in a family of four brothers and 7 sisters.

Apai was a simple and a gentle person. After coming to Honavar he started practicing ayurvedic medicines and hence became well known in the town. He was known as the ayurvedic doctor, and the whole town and the surroundings villages would come to him for treatment.
