Birth: Peter was born September 25, 1935.  Photo of Peter at about age 2 or 3 (the oldest photo we have of him).

Childhood: Peter was the youngest of three boys.  Bill was the oldest brother, and Jim the middle brother.

Childhood:  Peter and his family loved going to the NJ shore.

High School in Drexel Hill, PA:  Peter played the saxophone in his high school band, The Melody Makers.

College: Peter attended the University of Miami on a music scholarship and played in their marching band.  In 1957 he completed his Bachelor of Arts in Music.

Marriage: Peter Borst married Katharine Horton Decmeber 23, 1955.  Bill and Diantha Horton, Audrey Horton, Kay and Peter Borst, Ethel Borst, and Charles Horton.

Peter is a member of the popular Miami, FL band, the Ralph Flanagan Orchestra.

Teacher:  Peter teaches music at Roosevelt Junior High School, Hempstead, NY.

Military Service: Peter served in the Army (stateside).  He taught music and lead Army bands.

Teacher: Peter begins teaching at Hicksville Junior High School, Hicksville, NY.

Sailing: Peter tries sailing and buys a small wood sailboat.

College: Peter completes a MS in Education at Hofstra University.

Fatherhood: Peter's daughter, Lynne, was born January 31, 1964.

Widower: Kay dies and Peter raises Lynne on his own.

College: Peter continues graduate studies at City University of NY, Queens College.

Art: Peter takes up sculpture.

NYS music curriculum:  Peter is a member of a committee that wrote curricula for teaching music.

Sailing: Peter buys a J-24, a larger sailboat that can sleep 4. Peter kept this boat for 35 years until he was 80 years old.  Painting by Kurt.

Fatherhood: Peter's son, Kurt, was born June 20, 1987. (Photo is Peter with son Kurt, and pet bird Bianca from 12/1987.)

Retirement: Peter retires from teaching music fulltime at Hicksville Junior HS.  He continues his career teaching private music lessons and as an adjunct professor.

Adjunct Professor: Peter taught master classes to professional teachers at Long Island University.

Adjunct Professor: Peter prepared and gave lectures on music and great composers at Long Island University Hutton House Lectures program, a continuing education program.

Death:  Peter dies at home of heart failure February 16, 2021.  (Photo: Peter playing his saxophone, something that gave him much joy.  In fact, making music was extra nice since the instrument was recently maintained (e.g., new pads, etc.) and working very well!)
