Born to Henry and Margaret (Persson) Mohlenhoff in Montclair, NJ on March 4, 1936. Richard attended public school in Montclair and Farmingdale, NJ. He worked with his father in the family business of Mohlenhoff Farms. He drove a large box truck to night markets when he was 16 and in High School. He was an excellent driver and did so until two weeks before he passed. He graduated from Freehold High School in 1955. He began his entrepreneur streak, placed an extension on the family home and started a florist business. He then found his calling, being a salesman and started Mohlenhoff Insurance. 

He was an excellent businessman, grew the business and became the predominant personal and commercial insurance agent in the area. During this time, he enjoyed traveling to many parts of the US and the world. He subsequently moved to Bonita Springs, FL where he purchased Bonita Beach Motel and Boat Rentals with his son Eric in 1988. He taught his children to be independent and understand business. He loved dealing with the customers who were always asking for him and became known as “The Old Man“ or “The Big M”. He retired from the insurance business in the late 1990s. He married Kateryna in 1998 and they were always each other’s rock. He converted to Orthodoxy and was active in his local Churches. He retired in 2018 and they moved back to NJ in 2020.

Richard was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife Kateryna, ex-wife Louise, daughter Carol, sons Richard and Eric, daughter-in-lawEllen, stepdaughter Anna, grandchildren Eric, Jonathan, Margaret, Andrew, Anton, great-grandchildren Adalynn, Jeffrey and Jacob.
