This has been a strange year Bob, like one we haven't seen in our lifetime. Thinking about you, how we would go to Longwood Gardens for their Christmas display.

Dear Bob,

Thinking of you today on your birthday. It has been five years now since your passing to Heaven. You are remembered well by me and others in the office who know you. I keep you in mind in the drawing of you we still have over your desk, the pictures of you in my offices and the news article of you and I in the VB reception room.

You blessed me with your confidence, support and kindness as a young analyst in 1992 through 1994. Most importantly you believed in me.

I have prayed for you many times, and do so now that you felt that love, confidence, support, kindness and belief through the many succeeding years in which we continued to work together in VB from 2000 through 2012.

It has now been over a year since Bob's passing. It is still hard for me to believe that my dear friend is gone and hard to be without him. We spent many happy times together. I think of those times often and miss his gentle, compassionate spirit.

Read at Bob Dunne's memorial service on February 25, 2014, the 78th anniversary of his birth:

There was never a gentler soul than Bob Dunne,
In wit and generosity he was second to none.
With boundless caring for every person, dog and cat,
Who among us could have a greater heart than that?

In financial analysis, he was nonpareil,
But though blessed with such talent, he would never walk away,
But be there in an instant to show a novice the ropes,
The kind of mentor for whom everyone hopes.

Whenever a cause beckoned, he stepped up to the plate,
Be it fighting AIDS, or helping students, he was always first-rate,
In supporting chamber music, he hit all the right notes,
And helped many a candidate to garner some votes.

Among his avocations, talents and skills,
Was the lobbing of golf balls aloft in the hills,
Ever playing in a fairway, for the good of us all,
And always keeping his eye on the ball.

He was unstinting in his time, giving in both word and in deed,
And never too busy to help someone in need,
For all that he did to improve our lives and careers,
Here’s to you, Bob Dunne! Our heartiest cheers!

Bob was a good friend whose life was committed to progressive causes and sharing with others. He will be greatly missed by many, including those he served with on the Board of Directors and Audit Committee of Community Health Action of Staten Island. May he rest in peace.

Still doesn't seem real that Bob will not show up at the next SIDA meeting. Will miss his quiet, kind and gentle manner.

He was a gentleman who was beloved by many people. I would see him going to work on the ferry. I served with him on the Boards of Community Health Action and Lathrope Voorspuy. He will be missed.
