Sibling Shenanigans

My brother Roger was 13 months younger than me, so growing up we almost always shared a bedroom together. I remember hanging out in the neighborhood with Rog, and with Danny, Ann and Frank Wiley, our next door neighbors in Wausau. I think Ann was sweet on Rog. I remember Rog and I would wrestle in our beds, while having the usual brotherly arguments and fights. Which one time led to me having a broken arm! We attended confirmation class together at our church. But we also got into a lot of mischief together. One time Rog took my completed 1909-1957 penny collection and spent it all on candy at the local Seven Eleven store, boy was I pissed! But what I remember most, in all the years growing up in Wausau and Janesville, is that I had a great, amazing and awesome brother. Even while losing his sight during these years, he overcame day to day obstacles and learned to adjust of live, work, and play with his friends and family.
Our Lord performed a miracle on Rog some years ago when he had very serious intestinal issues, and all hope seemed lost. But with the determined efforts of his nephew, Kevin Behm, and his medical team at Mayo Hospital, along with many, many prayers from family and friends, Rog was given many more years to be with us. I truly believe Rog became stronger in his faith, and as a result, is spending a glorious eternity with our Lord, and we will all be together again one day.
I would like to quote C.S. Lewis, "Hardship often prepares an ordinary person for an extraordinary destiny". Rog was by far, the most extraordinary son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend that anyone could have ever imagined.
In loving memory,
His brother Rick
