I send my sincerest condolences to Ronn's family and friends for his sudden loss. It truly took my breath away. Ronn was indeed a very accomplished business man; an adventurer, an entrepreneur, eccentric and colorful!
I knew Ronn as a philanthropist. My cousin, Paula Fouce, introduced Ronn to a Tibetan Buddhist monk, then Abbott of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in exile in Southern India, named Khen Rinpoche Lobzang Tsetan. Through that association, Ronn and Khensur Rinpoche (now retired from his position as Abbott, so his name is changed to Khensur to reflect that distinction) became friends, with Ronn hosting Khensur Rinpoche numerous times at his home in Las Vegas.
During the time that Ronn and Khensur Rinpoche spent time together, they became close friends. Ronn was interested in knowing more about Buddhism and in helping the monastery to rebuild itself. Tashi Lhunpo had been one of the most important Tibetan Buddhist monasteries originally in Tibet and was now relocated in Southern India.
Ronn made significant contributions to the capital fund to first, finish building a new Prayer Hall for the monastery and then, to support the construction of a state-of-the-art Library. At the time, I was the Executive Director for the non-profit helping to raise funds to construct these buildings which are significant additions to the growth and expansion of the monastery under the direction of Khensur Rinpoche. I want to acknowledge that without Ronn's benevolence, the library in particular would not have been able to be completed. His generosity and kindness was an essential factor in ensuring that the library could be completed. The library is a magnificent structure, used to restore and translate ancient manuscripts and scriptures brought out of Tibet, serves as a place of study for new and elder monks, and brings together both secular and religious people or organizations to study the influence that Tibetan Buddhist traditions have had in numerous areas of science, social, and spiritual pedagogy. I have added a photo of the library to the slide show.
Ronn ventured to Tashi Lhunpo Monastery and was blessed with an audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama - in the slide show you can see a photo taken of them - photo # 138. This was particularly meaningful for everyone, and Ronn and his philanthropy made a very positive impact on the entire monastery. They appreciated him and knew how fortunate they were to have his compassion and altruism influence their daily lives. During the time Ronn was ill, the monks at the monastery held special prayer sessions for Ronn, and again upon Ronn's passing, have said numerous prayers to bless his transition.
It is impossible to measure how Ronn's kindness will impact generations to come. All those people using the library, visiting the monastery, and benefiting from its existence, are indebted to him in perpetuity.
I can say with assurance that his support made the library possible and we are all profoundly grateful for his generosity. On behalf of the Board, the monks of Tashi Lhunpo, and the entire community that values the monastery, we give the greatest thanks to Ronn, and will hold his memory and his kindness in our hearts forever. May all our efforts bring merit to all beings.
Sincerely,
Adrienne Moberly Vilaubi
