Her Life

Her Legacy lives on.....

March 16, 2016

Mrs. Rose Eigbiremolen (nee Amenkhienan) was born on February 24, 1954 to late Mrs. Regina and late Mr. George Apa Amenkhienan of Ehanlen, Ewu, Edo State. She was the third child of her parents and the first female child of the family. She was raised in a strong Catholic family, her parents being Catholics and her grandparents Catholic missionaries in the then Mid-western region.

Having been imbibed with Christian virtues, she grew up to be very caring and compassionate, not only to her immediate family members, but also to other people around her, from a very early age. This trait endeared her to all who knew her. Even though in her early education at Ewu she was consistently on top of her class, she did not have the privilege of proceeding to the tertiary level. This fact notwithstanding, and by dint of her belief in self-improvement, the level of literacy she would later demonstrate, clearly belied any absence of tertiary education. Undaunted by the professional limits, she sought other avenues for fulfillment - making & trading in Textiles ( Aso Oke & Laces), fashion and design, catering, and other entrepreneurial activities.

She got married to Mr. Ben Eigbiremolen from Eidenu, Irrua, and raised a sizeable family with her husband. She grew to become of great financial support to the household. Her elder siblings who watched her grow would frequently remark: “ . . . here is somebody to whom not so much education was given, yet has turned around and given so much of herself to her parents and her family, both immediate and extended”. She was her father’s favorite daughter and her mother’s closest pal up to their last days. Each of her parents passed unto glory literally in her caring arms.

She and her husband, Ben, made their home in Lagos. More important than her material sacrifices were the values she represented and imparted in others. She was an ardent member of the Catholic Women organization, Saint Andrews Society and Catholic Charismatic renewal, where she received Christ as her personal Lord and saviour. She was very selfless and compassionate. She set examples for all, both in words and in deeds. She was an ambassador of the Truth, and only stood for what is right no matter the cost. She fought to ensure the evangelization of her husband's family and preached the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ without ceasing. She was a perfect example of a virtuous woman who stood by her family through thick and thin. She was a force of unity, peace and harmonious coexistence even to the extended family.

When it came to the upbringing of her children, she was a very strict disciplinarian, instilling in them the fear of God. She applied the same principles to her siblings, her extended family and even to younger ones in her neighborhood. She was fondly called “Mummy” by both young and old because of her motherly disposition to all. Beside her biological children, she raised a lot of other children as her home became a refuge for some who were needy and indigent. She was known to pick up children from the streets of Ikeja and undertake to give their lives a meaning. She was revered and respected by all because of her love, objectivity and uncommon wisdom.

Mummy was there for all her grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She took it as her responsibility to ensure that they were well brought up and well cared for. She was the Watchman for her family, always praying and interceding on behalf of everyone, not wanting to leave anything to chance. She was selfless in all her dealings, always giving and never asking for anything in return. She lived for everyone but herself, gave of herself spiritually and in all things. She was strong even as her health failed.

Our beloved mother (grandmother, wife, and sister) understood her purpose on this earth. Her life, though short from our perspective, was much fulfilled. She fought a gallant fight, finished her course and won the race.

On Sunday March 6, 2016, she gloriously transited into the heavenly realm. We wanted her to stay but she deserves to be with her Lord and Maker.

Mummy will be greatly missed by her beloved husband, children, grandchildren, siblings, family, friends and all around the world. Her legacy lives on........forever missed..... forever in our hearts.
