GOODNIGHT AT DAWN QUINTESSENTIAL ROSELINE MERETIGHAN 01AUG1971 – 01AUG2023.
“For I know that my Redeemer liveth, and that He shall stand at the latter Day upon the earth . And though after my skin, worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God.” Job 19: 25-26
On Tuesday, 1st August 2023, I was preparing to depart home for work when I received a shattering telephone call informing me of your home call. Earth felt the wound, but the heavens were rejoicing at your transition.
You visited I and my wife at home on 27th July2023, had over two hours telephone conversation with me on 29th July 2023, and we exchanged WhatsApp communication on 30th July 2023. I am still in shock and self-denial that you passed to eternal glory on your birthday,1st August 2023. You were also employed on 1st July. What was your obsession with the 1st?
For 20 years out of my career at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, you were an integral part of my life as my Confidential Secretary till I retired as the Director of Administration & Secretary to the Management Board on 30th September 2014.
You were God’s exemplary creation of impeccable integrity, a thoroughbred professional, hardworking and dedicated; in our sacred mandate of caring for, giving succor to the sick and hope to the dying. You were highly reliable and dependable. You watched my back like a hawk.You gave me your total support, care, and pure love to my family while in office and in retirement.
While on planet earth, you impacted positively on mankind and shone brightly like the northern star. Your trademark of infectious smile, finesse and carriage radiated joy and happiness wherever you went. Kindness, compassion, and empathy were some of your unique features that endeared you as a pleasant but no-nonsense person to all who were privileged to have met you. You relate excellently with your co-workers and the public. You were an inspiration and an organizer. Your smile lit up the room.
Religiously, you were a practical Christian who served God faithfully till the very end with your resources, angelic voice in the church choir, and exemplary Christian life. You approached the vicissitude of life with your firm belief in God of endless possibilities.
Roseline, it seems to me you lived your life like a candle in the wind, never fading with the sunset when the rain sets in.
I am missing you dearly, but I know from inspiration that you are having your well-deserved rest with Father Abraham. Though I feel a deep sense of loss by your sudden and shocking glorious home call, I am praising God for your life well spent.
Some people are separated by distance, some by time, some by decision, and some by fate; but no matter how separated we are, treasured memories of you will live in my heart until the resurrection morning when we meet to part no more.
“For whether we live, we live unto the Lord: and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: Whether we live therefore or die, we are the Lord’s.”
