His Life

Mr. Rufus Chapman the son of the late Tommie and Essie Chapman was born February 5, 1928 in Coosa County Alabama. He quietly departed this life Sunday April 9, 2017 at Goodwater Nursing Home.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Tommie Chapman Jr. and John H. Chapman. Sister: Linnie B. Chapman and Son: Rufus Chapman Jr.

He attended Coosa County Public Schools and was a graduate of Laurel Training School. He worked 45 years at Russell Corporation. He proudly served his country as a sergeant in the USA ARMY in the Korean Conflict War. He was also a skilled painter and carpenter. At an early age he professed his faith in Jesus Christ and joined Corinth Baptist Church where he was a dedicated member. He also served faithfully as a Sunday school teacher and a Deacon for over 40 years.

He was united in holy matrimony to Mrs. Annie L. Chapman on October 6, 1954. This union was blessed with six children over the span of 63 years of marriage.

He leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Annie L. Chapman of Alexander City Ala. Three daughters: Rachel Mae Chapman (Charles) of Dayton, OH; Patricia Ann (David) McKinney of Alexander City Ala.; Cynthia L. Thomas of Alexander City Ala. Two Sons: Christopher A. Chapman and Gregory Lynn (Romonda) Chapman both of Alexander City Ala. One brother: Joe L. Chapman of Alexander City Ala. Three sisters: Lena M. Marbury, Willie P. Marbury and Alberta Joyner all from Danville, Illinois. Three sister-in-laws: Linda Chapman of Alexander City, Dorothy Chapman and Jerry Chapman both of Danville Illinois. Fourteen Grandchildren: Syreeta McKinney, David McKinney, Kayla (Bosnic) Hill, Rhonkoya Thomas, Tiara Thomas, Ouinyatta Sturdivant, Paris Chapman, Breana Chapman, Jalia Chapman, Kelly Chapman, Regina Chapman, Tiffany Chapman, LaTonya Chapman, and Courtney Chapman.

Twenty-four Great-Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Special Friends: Cynthia Burton, Bernica Whetstone, and Frances Bowes. God-son: Deacon Stanley Edwards
