ForeverMissed

Welcome to the Sandra D. Laird memorial. Please take comfort and find the smile within your heart when you scroll through the photos that represent a visual narration of her life. Sandi wore her heart on her sleeve, rejoicing in her loved ones happiness and wilting in their sadness. Remember her when you see the moon at its fullest, when you smell fresh cut flowers or the rich fragrance of Channel #5. May she float across your memory when you spot a sea turtle, when you watch The Sound Of Music, or when you hear the chime of silver bangle bracelets.  When you’re enjoying mashed potatoes, or watching the summer sun melt into the ocean, we hope that you feel her presence and remember that she loved with everything she was and that she would be so touched to live on in your memories.

You are invited to sign the guest book, light a candle, and/or share a memory, or photo.

The song is ended but the melody lingers on…

I had the opportunity to work with Sandi at the City. She was always professional, but brought fun and cheerfulness to the sometimes stressful job. I remember her smiling, going out of her way to help others, treated people respectfully and made them feel cared for. She was a joy to work with and be around. I'm so sorry to her family for your loss. We all adored her in the Mayor's office!

What I will always remember about Sandi is her beautiful smile, and how she always insisted on hearing all about everything that was going on in our lives, and genuinely cared. In my mind's eye I will see her walking across campus to pick up her beloved grandchildren, and her cheerful wave and greeting each time our paths crossed. Her big hugs brightened my day, whenever we exchanged them. I know she will be sorely, grievously missed here on earth, but fully believe her amazing spirit is watching over her family. and helping them to heal. Love like that does not extinguish with the last breath, but must certainly continue to give of itself, in perpetuity. Our hearts go out to your whole family.

From an Irish headstone: "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal."
Thank you Sandi for all of those happy memories you gave to all who knew you. Until we meet again.

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday beauty. When that song  comes on, during a full moon, or when we hear one of your funny sayings, we are reminded of your light. Missing you every day and living in the love you left behind. Xoxo

Remembering Our Very Special Friend

July 3, 2017

As colleagues at the Mayor's office, we have many, many fond memories of our dear friend, Sandi and all the fun times we shared together.  The three of us worked closely together and because of the nature of our positions, we were pretty much joined at the hip! This forged an incredible and unforgettable friendship (we even got in trouble together, but it didn’t matter - we were the Three Musketeers - one for all and all for one)!

We’d be discussing an approach to an issue and all of the sudden, Sandi would break into a song we all knew and the giggling would ensue. Sandi always had a song in her heart and chocolate on her desk. Her office was inviting to all with her plants, personal family photos and engaging smile providing a warmth to those who entered. (And we entered a lot)! It seemed as if the three of us could conquer the world once we were together in her office.

Outside the office our friendships grew, as well.  It was easy to do with Sandi.  We would drive to Borrego Springs once a year for a girls’ weekend and dubbed it the Cactus Club! We had the best times just hanging out together, talking about life, our families, sometimes deep subjects and sometimes just silly stuff (and there was of course, always some singing involved, not to mention, wine)!

We so miss your singing, your always sunny spirit, your ‘healing hugs’ when we needed one and your huge loving, caring, giving heart. You will forever hold a very special place in our hearts and we are so very fortunate for having known you.

Love,
Cynthia and Rachel

Grandma Sandi!

July 2, 2017

You knew when grandma Sandi walked into the room, pure, genuine excitement to see and spend time with her family, seemingly at any moment. When she talked to you, you never had to question whether she was really that interested in everything you had to say, she just was. She didn't carry love, acceptance, and joy with her, she embodied those things, and spread them around wherever she was. I would always get a great feeling knowing that she would be at family gathering, I knew there was someone I could stick by when it got boring! I could always talk to her about anything. She came with my family to kauai for a vacation a few years ago, and she was game for absolutely anything, and projected as much excitement as a child. Her son Dev, and daughter Amy, both have an amazing love and dedication to their loved ones that was passed down by their beautful mother. I'm filled with a lot of love knowing that I shared the amount of time I did with her, I wouldn't change any of it if I could. I love you Grandma Sandi!
