Sara O’Peter Woodbury Edmonds was a God-fearing woman of God. She began her journey of life 94 years ago in Georgetown, SC; her spiritual journey began in Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church (Georgetown, SC). The family moved to Charleston, SC and became members Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church. Later the family moved to Beaufort, SC and became members of Grace Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Sara was a graduate of Robert Smalls High School Class of 1942, Valedictorian. She attended South Carolina State College (Orangeburg, SC). Sara relocated to Brooklyn, NY in 1945. She married Frank Edmonds Jr., March 21, 1947. She retired from Tempo Electronics as an Electronics Inspector of PC Boards for Airplanes. After retiring she became an entrepreneur of home day care center where she cared for and nurtured children for over 30 years. She always had words of wisdom and encouragement for all she encountered. She was a true disciplinarian. You never had to wonder where she was coming from because she said what she meant, and she meant what she said. She always enjoyed the Word of God and singing praises unto the Lord. She was an advocate for Christ; the mother of the church who you would always see adoring beautiful hats, with exquisite suits, dresses with all matching accessories. She loved cooking, if you came to visit her you didn’t leave without a home cooked meal, and/or homemade slice of cake and/or pie. She believed in family, family structures and family togetherness. Even though she never drove she would-be all-over shopping and visiting; she traveled summers with husband and children to the Low Country of South Carolina (Beaufort) to visit with her parents; she traveled until the challenges of health required her to stop. She was an inspiration to the staff and residents at St. Johnland Nursing Center, always pleasant singing (knew all of the verses to hymns (“I Trust In God”; “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”; “Just As I Am”; “Precious Lord”; “I’m On The Battlefield”; “Have Thine Own Way”; just to name a few), spreading the good news of Jesus, enjoying life and dealing with joy the hand she was dealt; she even had an addiction to BINGO. Sara O’Peter Woodbury Edmonds was a faithful woman of God until her demise; she transitioned quietly singing a familiar hymn of the church.
