Sherri-Anne Antoinette Wynter, affectionately known by some as Sherri, was born on December 31, 1981, in St. Andrews, Jamaica to Sharon Ryan and the late Anthony Wynter.
In 1984, Sherri-Anne’s mother permanently relocated the family to the USA by joining her mother in Michigan with hopes of providing her children with a better quality of life. The family initially settled in Detroit where Sherri-Anne attended McColl Elementary and Lessenger Middle School before eventually moving to Southfield in 1994. At Levey Middle School and Southfield High School, Sherri-Anne quickly built a name for herself, earning several academic awards and holding numerous titles such as Class President and Homecoming Princess.
Sherri-Anne continued to flourish in college, dedicating her free time to planning community events and volunteer efforts while attending the University of Detroit Mercy. In 2004, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Child Psychology with high honors. Shortly after graduating with her Master of Science in Health Psychology from the University of Michigan Dearborn, Sherri-Anne married her college sweetheart in 2007 and the couple welcomed their first child, Sasha, in 2010. In 2014 she re-married and the new couple welcomed their son Dominic the following year.
It was no secret that Sasha and Dominic were Sherri-Anne’s pride and joy! You could often find her cheering them on at one of their basketball or volleyball games or sharing photos on social media of the many accomplishments, activities, and play dates that the children were engaged in. Her love for her children carried over into her community involvement where she served on the West Bloomfield (WB) Elementary & Middle School PTO, WB African American Parent Network, WB Diversity Task Force, and the Social Justice Committee.
Throughout her life, Sherri-Anne remained strongly grounded in her faith. As a loyal and respected member of Crossover Church, she wore many hats, including serving in the church’s nursery which was one of her favorite roles.
As a natural-born leader, Sherri-Anne also excelled in her career, gaining a variety of experience in the automotive industry while also working as a tax preparer, life insurance agent, and notary. One of her most notable career accomplishments was launching the corporate Toastmasters club at Stellantis in 2017. She would later go on to become a Distinguished Toastmaster and the Program Quality Director for District 28.
Despite her busy schedule, Sherri-Anne always found ways to support and spend time with her loved ones, whether it was enjoying a bite to eat, organizing spa days, or hopping on a plane. She loved taking trips and had the opportunity to travel all over the world, visiting countries throughout the Caribbean, Europe, Asia, and Australia. One of her favorite hobbies was creating beautiful scrapbooks of her loved ones and travels, which she often gave as personalized gifts for special occasions.
In the short time that Sherri-Anne was here, she touched the lives of many people. Her untimely passing is a devastating loss to many of us, but her profound impact and memory will be forever ingrained in our hearts.
Sherri-Anne leaves behind: her two children, Sasha Jackson and Dominic Rapley; her parents, Sharon and Jack Ray; her siblings, Sharolyn and Christopher Wynter; her grandmother, Merriline “Rose” Johnson and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
