Her Life

My Big Sister

July 18, 2014

Well, I just dictated a ten paragraph story about my big sister that was lost through my transfer attempt from one software to this software.  Bummer!  I will re-do it another day after I am satisfied that it is forever lost!

For now I will summarize.

Siby was my friend.  The 1000 miles between us did not impair that. I loved her.  I trusted her.  She never turned her back on me.  She was selfless to a fault.  She was a "Giver", not a "Taker".  She and I grew up 7-years apart.  I idolized her as a kid and learned from her as an adult.  She gave me two wonderful brothers-in-law that I love.  I hope to add some photos soon.

Obituary

July 3, 2014

Shaw, Sylvia (Siby) Kay (Kirby) Age 66 of New Brighton. On June 21st, Sylvia died suddenly along with her beloved husband, John. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert, Sr. and Margaret Kirby. Siby was born in Laurens, South Carolina. She grew up in the uptown area of Minneapolis and lived in the Twin Cities her entire life. She spent the vast majority of her professional career with Target Corporation until her retirement in 2003. One of her life long pursuits was to obtain her college degree. In 2004, she graduated with a major in Communications from Metropolitan State University. It was one of her proudest moments. After her retirement and graduation, Siby devoted her life to her family especially her cherished first granddaughter, Katrina. Siby was an openminded, life-long learner who was passionate about music, yoga, golf and travel as a part of her quest for life fulfillment. She will continue to inspire all who had the privilege to know her. There will be a celebration of Siby's life on Sunday, July 6th at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chanhassen. A remembrance will be held in the Snyder Auditorium at 2pm. Please feel free to arrive early and walk the grounds as Siby was an avid supporter of this beautiful place and often walked the grounds with her beloved husband. She found it to be a place of great peace and spirituality. Siby is survived by her brother Robert (Melissa) Kirby, Jr., son Jason (Jenny) Bever, daughters Amy Bever and Susan Malloy, step-sons Jeremy (Kendra), Jacob and Jefferson Shaw, her grandchildren Katrina, Tarence, Millie, Erin, Alexandra, Brett, Owen and Maudi. Also the families and extended families of those listed and many, many dear friends. She will forever be the mother, grandmother and magnificent friend who is watching over us as we live our days with deep love in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum or a local public library in the name of John and Sylvia Shaw.
