Obituary

October 15, 2015

Sonia Elaine Campbell was born on March 19, 1956 in Brampton, Trelawny, Jamaica, to Sterling and Inez Solomon. She was their very first gift from God. When Sterling and Inez were later blessed with daughter Cheryl, Sonia was ecstatic that she was now a big sister. Sonia graduated from Holmwood Technical High School in Christiana, Manchester, Jamaica, and later from the Jamaica School of Agriculture where she received a Diploma in Agriculture and a Teachers certificate.  After graduation, she taught at Cornwall College in Montego Bay, Jamaica and later worked with the Ministry of Agriculture. After several years, Sonia migrated to America and settled in what would remain her favorite city on earth: New York City. Sonia soon realized that she wanted to pursue an alternate career, Nursing. Sonia was a registered nurse and an incredibly hard worker. She worked in the hospital setting for several years but would eventually finish her career as a nurse in an educational setting; PS/IS 73 where she was dedicated to those children. She was the ultimate teacher/nurse.  Sonia’s quest was to educate people on healthy living therefore she held annual community related health fairs at her work place which led to her being awarded the Professional Development Award at Hunter College in Manhattan for outstanding community service in June 2014.  Sonia was married to Lionel Campbell and is blessed with four wonderful children, Damion, Natalie, Edward and Jacki, and her grandson Jayden who was the love of her life. She lived her life as a doting and loving mother and daughter, a treasured and trusted friend, an incredibly hard worker, and a strong and faithful spirit. Sonia fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. She went home to be with the Lord on September 30, 2015, and is survived by her beloved parents, her four children, grandchild, sister, her aunts and uncles, her cousins, her nieces and nephew, and a host of close friends. May her soul rest in peace.
