This recent snowstorm reminds me of sledding and skiing on Nashawtuck Hill, about a fifteen-minute walk from home. One year, brother Steve decided to make a snowfort where a high drift of snow had piled up beside the stonewall. All he (and maybe brother Bob) had to do was hollow it out. There was enough room on the front of it to carve out an entryway and a little window.  When inside the snowfort, it was possible to see the other sledders and skiers on the hill. We would often stay out there the whole afternoon, then head home as the sunset created soft shades of pink and purple in the deepening blue of the sky.

My brother Steve cared greatly about each of us. Even though I didn't live on the Cape, I was always invited to family holiday gatherings. Then he would make sure someone was at the bus station to give me a ride from there to his home. Perhaps from a heavenly home, he is hoping we will all be able to resume family get-togethers before long.

As youngsters, Steve and his older brother Bob were visiting New York City
with our parents. While at the Empire State Building, it was then possible to make a short recording. They brought the little record back to Concord, and I can just about hear Steve's voice, saying to me, "Hi Becca, It's really high up here, you can see lots from up here." So of course, I'm thinking of his view from heaven now, and how he is able to look out for each one of us, blessing us on our way.

My brother, Steve, had strong interests and abilities, such as sailing, tennis, softball, gardening, skiing, playing the piano, singing, photography and Cape Cod in general. Most of all, though, he showed how much he cared about family members by devoting unlimited time to helping us as needed.

I think about you often. Not just on your birthday. Such a strong positive influence on our entire family. Words can't express how badly you are missed.

My brother Steve was on a faith journey, especially later in life. He found a Christ-centered church on Cape Cod and was a part of that community, attending church every week, singing in the choir and participating in other church activities and fund-raisers. This greatly strengthened his faith in God.

Wish you could come visit me in Florida. Actually you did once. Your voice was of you when you were in charge, in command, younger.

The pink poinsettia from this past Christmas honoring my brother Stephen is still blooming! In the same way, his love and care are lasting gifts to those close to him.

My brother Steve always had our best interest at heart. Even though he is far away, I continue to feel blessed.
