Her Life

Suellen 2017

April 10, 2017

Suellen was born on Nov 28th, 1942 in Marchand, PA, a daughter of the late Jake and Jane Mottarn. She departed this life peacefully on Sunday, April 9th, 2016, surrounded by her family and friends.

Left to cherish her memory is  her loving husband John Shick,  whom she married in June of 18th of 1977. She is survived by her devoted daughter Tamara and stepson Dale Shick.

She is also survived by her adored sisters Nedra Spearing  and Anna May Lightcap. She was preceded in death by her siblings Carol Hubert and  Harold ("BUDD") Mottarn.

Suellen graduated High school in Marion Center Pa in 1960 and went on to receive a college degree at Indiana PA. Her several occupations included being a school teacher, a small business owner (ceramics and photography) and an executive administrator for the Elks. Suellen was the first woman Exalted Ruler in her Lodge 931. She then held many offices with the Elks thereafter.

Suellen was a giving person at heart with a penchant for helping others. She was a tireless advocate for veterans and the Elks. Suellen had an unrelenting drive for helping people, many times to the detriment of herself. She would go without her medications so she could help someone. Her devotion to helping veterans was her biggest passion. Her “can do” attitude resulted in many people being cared for in their most dire time of need.

She loved to cook; and pulled off some spectacular holiday dinners.  Around the holidays she made sure no one went without.
After retiring recently Suellen loved having adventures with her daughter Tamara boating on Lake Moultrie and Marion in South Carolina.  We fondly remember taking her to go on late afternoon boat rides during the sunset. She also enjoyed crocheting and many other things like pottery and antiques. We will all miss the Facebook posts that would come in at all times of the night and day. She was truly funny with a sharp wit that we will  miss. Suellen had the kind of personality that could connect with anyone. She was a kid at heart. Her laughter was loud and infectious. We will miss her dearly.

God Bless every one who loved her.
