When I arrived in San Francisco as a new graduate in the Fall of 1996 with a stack of Dartmouth Alumni names in my hand (I am a '94 grad), Ted was one of the first people that I met. He found out I was an athlete, and invited me right away to RACE in a sea kayak race as his partner in the San Francisco Bay (a 24 year old and a 68 year old!). Mind you, I had never been in a sea kayak before! Nervous as I was, I showed up at 5am in the morning in Sausalito and met Ted, put on all the gear, got into the kayak, and RACED with hundreds of other kayakers around Alcatrez!!! It was incredible. I think Ted and I came in last place, but we loved it. We paddled hard, and chatted, and I had the most fun of anyone out there on the water. I knew from that day on that I would be friends with Ted. Soon after, I met up with Ted and met his wife, and Ted guided me through the networking process of meeting several other Dartmouth alumni in the area. He was different than all the investment banking alums I met (the field I entered), and Ted always reminded me to stop and get outdoors and enjoy fresh air. I moved away from San Fransisco many years ago but always have thought fondly of Ted. I think of him still alive paddling out there on the water with me. A true Dartmouth alum...love you forever Ted. I am forever grateful.
