I am deeply saddened to hear of Tim's passing.

He and I met while working at the hospital in Red Deer. The Christmas party was planned for the same day as my birthday and some well-meaning mutual co-workers decided to set us up on a "blind date". He was such a gentleman, great sense of humour, and we stayed friends even after we stopped "dating".

He remembered that seeing Bob Seger in concert was on my bucket list, so when he came to Calgary, Tim planned the whole thing just so I would have the best memory.

I have so many BEST memories that included you my dear friend. May there be much music and theatre where you are now.

I was going through my emails and I found this video…at this link is a zoom video of Tim playing a song to me that he’d just written for a mutual friend (Sonja) who passed away way too soon. It is the last time I saw Tim. We were hoping to collaborate on this song he’d written.
Tim, I hope there is a heaven for you to Rest In Peace! ❤️

We first met Tim the night he and his band, the Boomers, opened for KD Lang in Red Deer. He came out on stage in a wild pair of shorts and they played an awesome set. Over the years, Tim, Laurel, Alex and friends came out to our cabin at Rocky Mountain House. We also all camped together back in the day at the North Country Fair, where Tim’s ‘tarp-man’ skills were always in demand.

Although we hadn’t seen Tim for a while, he came out to our cabin with Brian & Ken and then again with Dale this past summer. We had a great reconnect and as it often is with old friends, it was as if no time had passed at all.

It’s still hard to believe that Tim has left us. He was a great musician and a true friend. Our condolences to everyone who loved him.

We were very saddened to hear of Tim's passing. We met Tim in the 70's when he worked as a guitar teacher at my Dad's music store in Langley, BC. He became a good friend. Tim and friends would come over to the house and jam. He was kind, helpful, talented and funny. Over the years, from time to time, Mom (Shirley) and Dad, (Dave) would go to see him performing with Lonestar Cattle Company. I recently reconnected with Tim on Facebook to let him know that my Dad had passed. Shirley and I are hoping that Tim and Dad have reconnected and making music once again. We are sending sincere condolences to all the family and friends. Shirley and Brenda

Was shocked to read of Tims passing in the paper this morning. Only knew Tim by doing his taxes the last few years, was a hl lite of tax season. We spent many hours getting caught up to start with. He liked me but had no use for CRA and we had many laughs together. Your dad did have a very big heart, please accept my condolences.

We had such fun times going out to the cabin in the summers, exploring the forests and enjoying those amazing coyote pancakes for breakfast. I remember his incredibly inventive mind, especially the paint spinner, such beautiful art from such a beautiful soul. I’ll never forget that laugh. Rest peacefully, Tim. Forever in our hearts.

I knew Tim best as one of my brother's BFFs. My first memory of Tim was when he came to help Ken build a deck. I recognized then, that he was a perfectionist and, truth be told, that deck lasted for a very good many years. Over the next few years, my brother invited my partner and I to a few campouts and parties that Tim, Laurel and Alex were an integral part of. Apparently, they loved playing at Red Deer's Park Hotel because they knew they could count on clean sheets! That's some serious dedication and certainly not the romantic vision that danced in my head as life on the road! I'm not sure how they chose Red Deer to make their home and raise Alex but perhaps we owe gratitude to the Park Hotel. FYI the Park always had the best live bands.
While Tim pursued his passion for music in the evenings as a member of multiple bands, his day job was at the Red Deer Hospital. It almost became routine during the last few months of my mother's life, to run into Tim at the hospital, always with a friendly smile and a kind word. No doubt, he knew of our family's struggles and knew we could use a friendly distraction.
Tim may not have been blood to my own brother; all the same, he was 'brother' by choice. That alone tells me he was a creative, open-minded and liberal thinker, with a great sense of humour and a big heart; everything we really need to know about him.
Tim, may you be sing and play for eternity. Rest easy. Peace be with Alex, Jenn, Laurel, Jimmy & Billy, and all of Tim's loved ones.

I’ve known Tim since Junior high school. He was a born leader and a man of many talents. I take full credit for instigating a little match-making as part of a devious scheme to arrange for some inexpensive ( but not cheap) music for my wedding back in 1977. Totally guilty of name dropping, I wandered into a commercial space Tim was operating and told him that Laurel Mutch was helping me organize the event. “Say no more,” he said. “As long as I can have a dance with Laurel, I’ll bring the sound.” And the rest, they say, is history,

My wife, Robyn and I are shocked and deeply saddened by the news of Tim's passing. I had the pleasure of being Tim's band mate in 1977 (Kickin' Horse). We had reconnected recently by phone and email, and it was my hope that we would get a chance to play music together again one day. Tim was an inspiration and his leadership was important in our band at that time. About a year or so after I had stopped playing with this band, a mutual friend told me that the band, Lonestar Cattle Company, was looking for a new lead singer, and that I should audition. I wasn't ready to travel down this road at the time, so contacted Tim and suggested that he audition for it. Well he did, and got the job! RIP Tim! Our deepest condolences to his family!

Tim, Tim, Tim, so sorry to your family for your passing! I guess you are with Maudie Van Eaton making those tulips , and with Herb Sonnenberg with those cutting boards. I can still remember you as part of the "IM" Brothers playing for Julies' Christmas Party way back when. Take care my friend .               Hugh

I am still in shock! I was expecting a phone call from him to resume our online jam sessions. I will miss Tim greatly!
Tim loved a good joke and we laughed quite a bit.
Tim first introduced me to music “gear lust” when I visited his studio-in-progress (an ongoing project for him), and he asked me to look for a power cord for an electric piano he had bought. There was so much “stuff” (boxes and boxes and boxes of stuff, lol) in the studio, I felt like Dante at the gates of hell (“abandon hope ye who enter here”)…I soon abandoned hope of finding the cord, and never did try that piano that day.
My deepest sympathies to Tim’s son and family!

Best dance I ever had in high school was with Tim! It was Hey Jude and lasted forever! Such a great guy and so sorry that he is gone.
He was also my campaign manager for high school election.

I met Tim Newcomb in high school at Langley Secondary School when his family moved to Langley around 1969/70. Next thing I know, my friend Ed Clent is the drummer in a band called The Freeborn Rovers with Tim as the lead guitar player & singer. We used to go & see this band perform on Saturday nights at a B.Y.O.B. venue known as Vanleuvens on 200th St. south of 16th Ave. in Langley. There was a small cover charge to get in and they sold ice and mix and snacks & everyone brought their own bottles of their favourite poison. I remember that place as a scene of abject debauchery, but oh my god we had fun. The Freeborn Rovers were a cover band & played the hits of the day basically with a few country tunes thrown in as I recall. The repertoire swung from Buck Owens' "Act Naturally" to The Beatles' "Nowhere Man" and everything in between.

Tim knew that I was a budding guitar player and he very kindly invited me to a band rehearsal at one of the band member's place out in Mission. So, sure enough and true to his word, he picked me up on a Sunday morning in his blue VW van. I had a new Silvertone Electric Guitar - a Christmas present my mom & dad had ordered from the Sears catalogue. It was a certified cheapo, but man I loved that guitar. We got to the rehearsal place which was a huge room in a barn or a garage or something with a stage riser & all of the gear set up. Gary McNight, Paul Hamilton and Ed were already there and there were mics, amps, Ed's drum kit and everything. To me - it was just extremely cool. I sat in a chair in front of the stage & listened to them rehearse for at least an hour & then Tim said "C'mon, get up here!" So me & my $75 Silvertone hit the stage. I don't remember very much other than murdering a version of The Eagles "Peaceful Easy Feeling" and an appalling attempt at Take It Easy with Tim singing harmonies. Soooo much fun though.

Tim drove us back to Langley & dropped me off at my parent's place. I remember my dad asking me how it went. Dad was a pretty good musician in his day and I think he was excited for me & a bit jealous too, maybe. That was a really great day & it was all made possible by Tim.

Mr. Newcomb - you were my musical hero, my idol and my drinking buddy on more than a few occasions. You were generous, kind and, at times, absolutely hilarious. You once filled your VW van with inebriated guys and drove us all to Nanaimo in the middle of the night - just for the hell of it. (I can't believe they even let us on the BC Ferry.) I am so honoured and proud to have been among the few people you called your friends and I will miss you buddy.

Rest in peace. Tim Newcomb has left the building.

Could have had him any day
We only let him slip away
Out of kindness I suppose."
