Yoz Sky,

It has been a while since you left us mere mortals. Our lives are such. Brief passages and moments. But the richness of that encounter with you all that 27 years ago left a bond. I miss you dear friend. Whatever you said, I know God is proving you wrong. Put in a good word for us till we meet again.

"Gone but not forgotten" may be a platitude but is certainly the case for Sky. My memories of him and his family are sweet and enduring.

Wow, still another year to remember how in literary class we shared the sonnet, part of which I recall because of Sky's height and accomplishments: "My name is Ozymandias, the King who rules over even other Kings. Behold what I have built, all you who think of yourselves as powerful, and despair at the magnificence and superiority of my accomplishments." In character and in passing, memories of Sky helped to understand the sonnet in praise art's power of preserving the past. R.I.P.

Words would never be enough to describe this exceptional man. He was created by God to influence the world of many - a purpose he fulfilled and was still fulfilling until death took him from us. He was a man who sees the golden attributes in all, no matter how lowly one think of himself/herself. For those who came to know him, he would always want you to excel and willing to get and guide you through, all the way until you achieve your goals.
We remember you always, Prof.
And our prayers are with your Karen and kids. Rest on, Sky!

How time flies. Three years without Sky. It is best not to imagine how hard it would be for Kareen and the children, talkless of the mum and the brothers and sisters that are all so dear to Tope's heart. We can only continue to trust in God for His mercy on all. Please take heart and stay strong to guide those children just as Sky has done to many others. Our heart and prayers are with you all.

Dear Uncle
3 years gone and the Pain does not Ease, i still reminisce on your voice and words. It saddens me you left when I grew to know how much you mean to me and thought I would tap from your wisdom, you were my hero, Forever and a day.
You will always remain that hero
Till I meet you again someday.
I will embrace you in my arms
The pain does not ease.
You remain in my heart forever

Dear Mummy Karen, May God never leave you. My love to you, Nisha, Mara and Feranmi.

Sky,

Time flies! We are in a pandemic now. It’s caused my COVID-19. Many left to join you the past six months. It’s a time to reflect here. The earth is healing, we are pondering. Life is frugal. What we can really hold onto is memory. The kids playing in your garden in Reading and you and Karen scolding me to drop the phone and enjoy my holiday. One of the best scolding I ever received. The good time we had around the world. The friendship we developed. Lizzy and I were able to see Karen once since you left. We could do more, but life’s struggles have not helped. We have them and you in mind always. Rest well as we remain militant over here.

Tony

My Prof. Why now? Till now I have not been able to pick back my research work on Effective Communication on Public Health. You have created a vacuum too large to fill.
My greatest consolation is that you are resting.
Karen and children, please take solace in the good works your husband and father left behind. Surely they speak loud enough for all of us to hear.
Remain blessed.

Today marks the posthumous birhday professor Tope Omoniyi who relocated from the terrestrial world to the celestial world in 2017. Prof. I remember you today for good. It is painful that you left when we needed you most. You have not finished your assignment. Who will complete it? I wish you can come back. Let your presence be felt again. Come! Come! Come! We are expecting you.
Unfortunately, we won't meet again here until the resurrection day. Missing you is an understatement. Your legacies are our consolation. We no longer mourn you but happy you did not live for nothing. We still feel you in the world of sociolinguistics. Adieu, prof.

I do so miss your sharing of all things West African, as I deepen my own understanding of language and society there. When I'm with your former colleagues in Ghana, I have heard them say: 'What would Sky have thought about this?', or: 'Sky would have appreciated this!'. Thinking of your family, too.
