The Passing of A Great Icon.

March 22, 2021
"Broda Dada", as I very fondly called him, was a man who wore many caps, as he related with me while on this side of the heavens.

He was my Mathematics teacher in St Barnabas Secondary School, after the completion of his Higher School Certificate program in Titcombe College. He was a great inspiration to a number of us who were his students in the secondary school, where he was an academic epitome of excellence, specially his great mastery of not only Mathematics, but, at the higher level, the higher echelon subject of Additional Mathematics, that only a few students, at the time, dared to enrol in. Broda Dada was then an iconic symbol of intelligence. Many of us, his students, simply adored him, and cheered him on as " Maths - Maths - Physics ", then an enviable subject combination of the rare exceptionally intellectually endowed.
I became closer to him much later, when our paths crossed again in Lagos, in our adult working lives. A simple man of an incredible high  honesty and a most friendly disposition, Broda Dada  undoubtedly showed unusual bravery in the quest to  live, even when accosted by painful moments in his last moments. Each time I called him, even on his sick bed, he would always very cheerfully respond : " Okun oba !!   Seun seun". He will be sorely missed.
We are consoled by the scriptures in Psalm 30v5, which implore us thus " The anger of the Lord is but for a moment, His favour is for life. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning ".
My dear brother, we shall meet again at the feet of Jesus Christ, on the Resurrection Morning. Good night.    Solomon Adebola.
