In the memory of my dearest Ma, Amma, Ammane, Amma chellam, Mom, Momzu, Momzie, Momma bear, Amma Pilli, Hurrem Sultan, Winnie the Pooh, Pulikingi, Kothai, and the countless endearing names.

This is a special memory from when I was very young. One evening, my mom went to pick up my sister from school and put me to sleep in my crib. When I woke up, I couldn't find her, and the front door was locked. So, I went out the back door to the front gate, hoping to see her. I remembered that whenever I played with my mom's handbag, she would come to scold me. So, I grabbed her handbag and waited at the gate, hoping she would come. When she returned with my sister, she saw me with her handbag and smiled at my clever idea to bring her back.

Even until a few months ago, I would ask her  if she knows why I brought her handbag to the gate, and she would smile and say it was because - I thought she would come back to scold me.

Now that she has passed away, whenever I see her handbag, I wish she would come back and scold me for touching it. I miss her so much.

I am knowing Vidya from 2002 when I came on transfer from Palakkad Division. From first sight itself she attracted me and we are 8 close friends. We used to meet at intervals even after some of our retirement. Her pleasing character and ever smiling face I cannot forget in my life. We used to go outstation also as a picnic and religious places. And mostly our meeting place in my house. Vidya used to come late because she was coming from long distance. Another main reason her late coming is she did all the work for her children and family. She never tried to escape from her house hold duties. Like that only in her office also. Very devotion to duty and perfect work. When she visited my house she used to buy something for us and also to my servant also. She is very kind to all. Never forget a personality like Vidya. Her smiled is always in my eyes. May her soul attain eternity. I wish to share more details but difficult to explain in writing.

The ever smiling.

Vidyavathi and I did higher secondary together in the same class (AJS Nidhi 1984-86). The tall girl, with two long thick braids. After schooling I didn't have any contacts with school mates as I was residing in a distant place.
As luck would have it, I was so surprised and rejoiced to see Vidya in my office (S. Rly-HQ-Mechanical) as my counterpart! That was in 2006, after which we almost had official interactions regularly, always ending up the conversation with a personal touch. Goes without saying, Vidya went the extra mile to help me in getting data.
Vidya got me added in our AJS WhatsApp group in 2018 and we could meet in marriages and get to gather.
The first thing to say about our dear Vidya is her ever charming face and the most gracious smile. I always admired her smile, it's not just a smile. It actually throws a blanket of warmth, care, compassion...on the people around her. Never one can see a negative mood, displeasure in her.
Vidya was always bold, confident, speaks frankly from her heart and had that            " Gambeeram". No one can take things easily seeing her smile, as she never compromised on her righteousness.
Her smile flashes in front of me often and she is with us only, probably in a different form.
Love you Vidyavathi
