Uncle Bill was the first Black man I every saw in an Army uniform. I was ten years old, and I will never forget how handsome he looked walking toward the family the day he returned home from the Army. We were all running up to him giving him hugs and kisses, and I will always remember how he looked that day and how happy I was to see him. The only soldiers I had ever seen wer

Remembering The Sleeping Soldier
By Mary Alice-Rouson Floyd
It was many long years ago,
When America faced her fighting foe,
Redcoats marched to claim our state,
Untrained farmers laid in wait,
Although they lost a battle or two,
Freed us to fly the red, white and blue.
From Pearl Harbor to New York state,
The Vietnam Jungle to liberating Kuwait,
The Memorial of the unknown soldier,
The acts of terrorism getting bolder.
Every patriot will tell the story
Of a sleeping soldier draped with Old Glory.
Purple Hearts and Silver Cross,
Will show the world all is not lost,
America stands stronger than before,
Protecting her boundaries shore to shore,
As we commerate sleeping soilders,
this Memorial Day
Kneel and ask God to again bless the USA
**THANKS DADDY FOR YOUR SERVICE IN KOREA**
THE BEST DADDY ANYONE COULD HOPE FOR
Most moms and dads are given their bundle of joy wrapped in a blanket but God gave me my daddy and he became my bundle of joy. We use to swing on the front porch after I came home from school. When he went to see his brother Sonny we all cried, I was thinking how long is 2 weeks gona be, well it seemed like to long and when he returned we jumped up hugging him before he could put his luggage down causing him to loose the cigarette he was smoking. I Always looked forward to the fourth of July picnics at big mama's . Daddy was proud of us and big mama loved us so sweetly. some of the kids at school had lost their grandparents and when I told them I had three, they were amazed. You know daddy was a great cook I really enjoyed the way he made spagetti, I moved away in 1989 and on our way out my husband drove the uhual by daddys so we could say another farewell. Upon leaving i gave daddy a blue Bible and asked him to read it everyday. I was last home in 99 and Isaw him then, though we talked on the phone often I STILL WASN'T READY TO SAY BYE DADDY.
