HAPPY BIRTHDAY WAYNE 55 TODAY 9/5/21
Forever missed and forever remembered. Memories are wonderful, and mostly funny . He was a little scrapper when he played hockey and gave us lots to cheer. Being the smallest on the team didn't bother him. Get out of his way and the taller/bigger boys did as he pushed himself into the net with a goal. Through out his life he challenged each day. Loved greatly. Aunt Cynthy
Wayne struggled with appendiceal adenocarcinoma cancer for nearly 4 years. It was one long uphill fight. First diagnosed in 2012 with Stage IV colon cancer, he had beaten the odds and continued to persevere through increasingly grueling and invasive treatments. After rigorous chemotherapy Spring 2013 and eight major surgery throughout the years, Wayne was declared “cancer free” the first year and began follow up chemo treatments. Unfortunately, despite (and during!) the chemotherapy his cancer returned and spread. Days before Christmas 2013, Wayne underwent surgery to remove a new tumor in his small intestine. City of Hope doctors ran out of options. The hard truth is that the cancer is not responding to his current chemo regimen and repeated surgeries to remove additional tumors may not always be an alternative given how aggressive his previous surgeries have been.
His battle with cancer wasn’t quick or easy. It was long and tough. I’m in awe of his courage and selfless-ness. He fought for every extra day so that he could be with Norah and even on the worst days, he found the strength to spend time with her. His greatest gift to our daughter will be that additional time.
