William Frederick Seitter, was welcomed into the world on February 27, 1935 to Charles and Amelia Seitter.  Growing up in the Bronx as the forth child with his siblings, Anna, Charlie, Robbie, Cliff and Louie, “Willie”, as he was called by his family,  enjoyed the love and comfort of a big family.  They all loved boating and fishing and spent many of their early years growing up with close family and friends at the Locust Point Yacht Club.    Often seen cruising  around the neighborhood with his brothers and friends, and hanging out the ice cream parlor , Willie met the love of his life and wife of 59 years, Jean Docherty, also from the Bronx, and they married on feb 22, 1958. Around the same time, Willie enlisted into the United States Navy and was stationed in Key West, FL, assigned to the U.S.S. Gilmore, as a radio operator.  He loved his position as a radio operator and often told us stories of his assignments working with the officers on the ship.  HIs skills as a “radio man” fostered a long time hobby as an enthusiastic Ham Operator for many years.   After the honeymoon years in Key West, Will & Jean started  a family in Washington Heights. Ellen born in July 1959, and Willie Jr. in May of 1962.  At this time his passion for sports and fitness started to take hold …starting with his Saturday morning handball games.   Willie and Jean eventually moved with their 2 young children to Bogota, NJ in 1970.  The children attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School,  both were married there and Willie and Jean have remained devout parishioners of St. Joseph’s for 47 years. Willie’s enthusiasm for sports also grew….running, tennis, bicycling, and weight lifting all became part of his regimen over the years…. and of course windsurfing!   Being a grandfather was such a joy to Willie.  He loved Vincent, Timothy, Kaitlyn, Colleen and Kevin with all his heart. Over the years he taught them so many things, and always enjoyed watching them play soccer, softball, baseball, football and dance.  HIs circle of friends grew exponentially as he forged new friendships while attending so many of the grandkids events. Willie and Jean also enjoyed many summers at their Seaside Park home, where times spent with the grandchildren have forged lifetime memories for them all.   Whether it was leading the Boy Scouts, planning a fishing or ski trip, windsurfing and boogey boarding with his grandchildren, biking, volunteering at Island Beach State Park, working out with his friends at Gold’s Gym or “manning the grill” at the summer family reunions and block parties, we will all remember his willingness to pitch in and lend a hand all the while with his big, happy smile.    He touched many people throughout his 82 years of living and he would want us all to reflect on the fun times and special moments we all shared with him living a full, active life.
