It is hard to believe that 8 years have gone by because you are missed just as much now as you were 8 years ago. I know you have been watching me from Heaven with Grandma Kay for all my big milestones this year, but I wish you were here to celebrate them with me. You still make your presence known to me here though, and I know one day I will see you again. I love you sassy little old man!

Not sure how 6 years have already passed, but I wish you were here to see all the changes happening in our lives! I know you are watching down over us and help guide us in the decisions we make every day. You certainly make your presence known, like when Fly Me to the Moon comes on in my car I know you KNOW my lead foot is working hard!
Stay sassy little old man, love you!

On the 4th Anniversary of your joining Mom, we miss you terribly. And you would hate the “progress” on Manasota Key and the state of the world today.
However, there is a bright spot TODAY that you would be so pleased with and proud of!!! Karina graduates today from Florida International University with a B.S. in Computer Engineering. You were her inspiration to persevere despite the difficulties. We will always remember the tears of joy in your eyes when she was the only one who could solve the math “puzzle” that someone you knew challenged her with!
The crowning glory is the graduation TODAY, the very day of your passing. We KNOW you will be with us in spirit as we celebrate her tonight!

How can you say enough great things about a man that made such a great impression? I was a caregiver for Mr. Bill. We laughed and played. He made my job fun. I enjoyed coming to work. I would not say it was work. It was a joy to assist him. I think about him often. He's not forgotten, especially when I visit Manasota Key. FOREVER LOVED Rustee

Dad, in honor of today, the one-year anniversary of your passing, I am just getting back from spending quality time with Aunt Doris, 95 yrs old, and one of your favorite people. We spoke of you often, looked at pictures, and laughed in remembrance of old times. Also in memory of you, Jim is offering to accompany the World War II vets on the Honor Flight next month that you should be on. He can't help you anymore, but there are a few good men like you that he can still help and honor!

I wanted to leave a message for a birthday wish. I know your birthday was on July 21, 1923. I've been working and wanted to say something in your memory. As the birthday has passed know you have not been forgotten by a person that gave you all the TLC I had during our time together. My favorite story is about placing the evening eye drops in your eyes. This was done prior to my leaving for the evening. I would ask if it
were time for the eye drops? You would say "Right." So I'd run to the kitchen to get them. Then run back to the bedroom trying to get there before you would lie down. You'd see this was our way of laughing and playing. I'd have the bed covers pulled down and grab the pillow to place under your head. Most of the time I did it, and then we'd laugh! I miss these special times. 7-21-1923 is the day of your birth. What you have given to me is pure Joy and I SMILE when I put eye drops in my eyes. With much love, Rustee

Dear Bill,
I spent the evening with your lovely daughter, Kris, yesterday, as she led us in yoga on the beach. How perfect that it should have been a prelude to your birthday. May you be resting in peace with Kay on this, the 93rd anniversary of your birth.
  Love,
  Reverend Sarah

Many adjectives can describe an individual...For Sandy and I, BILL can be best described as a kind, generous, understanding, Joyful, helpful Man but most of all Bill was our Dear FRIEND....
I miss your laughter, fun, and gentleness. I miss the things I used to do for you
I miss the time, now filled with emptiness, When each day was a stage for something new.
I miss your presence, like a silent chord That anchored even solitude in grace.
I miss, for my love's labor, the reward Of seeing some small pleasure in your face
All these I miss, and yet they are all here Within our heart, far more than I can bear.

kris & Jim, Karina & Kayla...Sandy And I would like to extend our deepest sympathy and
sorrow for the loss of a great man.. DAD... MR. BILL...

I am proud to have known Bill through the years I have lived on Manesota Key beach. I first met Bill in early 2008 I needed a tool and I was told by a neighbor to go see Bill. Bill had every tool known to man and knew how to use them. He told me stories of his wartime career and of his life. I am grateful to have known Bill. You will be missed.

As a youngster I considered Mr. Shiflet the ideal father. He would take his children and us, their friends, out on the boat on Folsom Lake and generously give his time so we could water ski. We had picnics at Cameron Park and trips to the ocean in the camper while he ran the Dipsea Race in Marin. I always admired that he would work all day at Aerojet and then go for a run on his way home! I wish I had his energy. He was indeed special!

We met Bill and Robyn in 2006 in Englewood. Since then, we've had a wonderful relationship including the trip to California for Bill's 90th birthday. At 90, Bill walked the Golden Gate Bridge- always young in spirit! Our thoughts and prayers are with Robyn and his family. My other "Dad" will be missed.  Pat and Barry Ruhl, Southampton ON

It has been an honor and a pleasure to have been a part of assisting Mr.
Bill the last ten weeks. We went to Port Charlotte. He would always wear his WW II Veteran Ball Cap. What a proud moment in time, men would come up to him and say, "Thank You for your Service." He would
nod his head. I was so proud I almost cried! Thanks for the memories.

We didn't know Bill and Robyn all that well but we knew Bill to be an energetic and ambitious man for his age and he had a good sense of humor. We know he will be missed by all that knew him. Sorry for your loss.

Dad, you kept your class, your grace, and your sense of humor right up until the end. I will never forget the sight of you looking up above and reaching up while mouthing the word "Okay." I imagine it was to Mom. I will be forever grateful that I had the honor of holding your hand with my head on your shoulder as you left this world.
