Sister Yemisi, you have never been afraid of Death

August 31, 2018

The story that comes to mind, was a time we were both at Sister Tokunbo Soneyes place in Surulere. You were very ill and the only one at home. I came back home to see you well again and lively. Then you told me the story of your miraculous healing. You said you became so weak that you could not stand up from the couch you were lying on. With the awareness that no one was around, you became aware of the hovering of the Spirit of death!.You said you then managed to mutter strength and spoke directly to the devil and death in the words of Paul in Philipians 1:21 For me to live is Christ and to die is gain! You told the devil 'Make a choice; if i live i will continue to torment you and depopulate hell and if i die, i am going to rest with my Saviour triumphantly, for me it is win win but for you it is loose loose' You told me immediately life returned and you lived and have done so much exploit for God! Now you have gone to rest triumphantly with your Saviour. You have won and won! and the devil lost and lost! Halleluyah! Goodnight my darling Sister

5am Every day, our mum would wake us us for Morning Glory, a prayer session with neighbouring mothers gathered at your house in Gowon Estate. Although we were to young to comprehend the significance but you were always rejoicing, dancing , singing and praying. You made being a Christian look very beautiful and every time I loved coming to your house at every opportunity and listened while you counselled.Ma you were a gem of indescribable virtues. We are thankful for the beautiful life you lived and exemplary acts of kindness. Our loss is heavens gain.

Rest in the eternal peace of Gods glory  dear Mummy Adelo

It is a reality but still feels so unreal that I won’t see my dear friend “Mummy Yemisi” on this side of eternity anymore. I sat in the same classroom for five years and was in the same boarding house with Pastor Yemisi at Christ’s School Ado – Ekiti; where we had our secondary school education. She had that air of maturity around her, to stay on top of issues; even in 1973 when we met. She also had that look that makes one feel that all will be well; even before the ever comforting words were uttered. Needless to say, I loved hanging out with her for positivity; especially when one didn't feel like smiling - such as when provision lockers were almost empty before another monthly visiting day's supply. With her, there would be no need to cry and be homesick; as a child, she had always had a way and the words to make me feel all would be alright.

Yemisi was fun to be with and our friendship continued after school. In fact, everything I remember about her makes me laugh even when the tears flowed. I still remember vividly, visiting family members together in Ado in our school uniform; jolly trotting back to girls section. I also remember a particular brief visit to her in Lagos, some days of attending ceremonies in Aramoko and a visit to Ilorin in our college years. I cannot recall a single incident of anger in all of those times as she had a gift of disarming anger and diffusing tension. That smile on her ebony face would make one forget the intention to accuse her of stuff. I believe she had the gift of wisdom too; she knew how to handle situations. You can imagine your own friend CALMLY shushing you not to call her by her nickname; without a blink. Incidentally, that happened when she came with her husband to conduct the burial ceremony of a church member in the quarters where I was residing. These were days before the mobile phones became common in Lagos. We had not seen each other for a while, but she knew what to do and how to do it; as she sighted me. She handled that so well that I was forced to behave and not shout out. I also observed wisdom applied in her conduct with women of various ages on another church occasion and just blessed the name of the Lord for her gifts.

I never said this to Pastor Yemisi, but her friendly association over the years has had a positive influence on me. Her calls in her busy ministry days were just as great as our school days conversations at the beginning; full of words of hope and prayers. I can only thank God again for knowing her and pray that God of all comfort consoles her entire family.

Wow. All I could say is Wow.

Sister Yemisi as you are fondly called by us all. Mummy Yemisi Adeloye, i met you in 1992 when i gave my life to Jesus at RCCG, LADIPO OLUWOLE, IKEJA. I blessed God for giving you to us, you are a great package i  the body of Christ.the woman of God that I am today was as a result of your strong mentorship. You taught us to pray, my strong prayer life today is as a result of your unrelenting efforts in making us prayer champion, you laid so much emphasis  on the word of God,  how to combine serving God and being a good wife, mother and woman. You were very particular about us all making heaven. Anytime we meet, you want to listen to my testimonies and were always glad with what God is doing and will still do. In 2016 at Abuja, you told me to continue in the Lord without looking back and that your joy will be full when in heaven you see us all your spiritual children . What a great woman you are!!! It's really painful and sad to hear you have gone to be with the Lord so soon. Mummy Yemisi I will no longer see you on the altar in the camp or at Mummy G.O's women meetings where I always meet you. May the Lord comfort my Daddy, Pator Ayo, the children and the entire family in Jesus name.
